Re: Character Count V.S. Word Count - Why the former?
by Emily
Hi there!

I can't speak specifically about the technical reasons for using character count, but my assumption is that counting characters is the most effective and simple way of managing how much text is able to be entered in a specific text box. In the Newsfeed, the character limit is 2,500 characters, which is quite high. For the Two-Word Tuesday and Three-Word Thursday posts in the newsfeed, most folks just count how many words their entry is *Wink*

And a note as well, that for items posted in your portfolio, you can see the word count by clicking on the Gear icon in the top right, then clicking on Word Count. Personally, I tend to check the word count of my items used another software, like Microsoft Word, before posting.

I hope that helps!
