Daily Flash Fiction Challenge

Bond swirled the ice in his glass with a practiced flick of his wrist before casually tossing his cards across the baize, revealing a pair of Jacks. “Appropriate.” He said wryly.

The man in the white tuxedo jacket gave a slow, resigned smile, “Very interesting” he said softly, stroking his whitening beard. “Were you spying on me Mr Bond?”

“I’m no spy…” Bond took a long sip from his crystal tumbler “…Dr Doublejack.”

“Yet you know my name?”

Before Bond could reply a tall, slim and beautiful blonde woman stepped forward. ”Oh for Gods sake. Ezekiel! Phineas! What is wrong with you both?”

“Pandora!” They exclaimed, before turning to each other in surprise.

“You know her.” said Phineas Doublejack to Bond

“Yeah, she’s my step-sister.” said Ezekial Bond. “How do you know her?”

“Pandora’s my pilates instructor and gal pal. She invited me along to this singles night to keep her company. She said the Casino games would be a great ice breaker for meeting people.”

“That sounds familiar.” said Bond, raising an accusatory eyebrow at Pandora.

Pandora Bocks smiled innocently “I’ve mentioned you to each other loads of times. Zeke? Phin? I thought you would have recognised each other by your name-tags. But for some reason you two fools decided to write down your surnames. What was that about?”

“”It was the guy handing out the name tags that did that.” said Bond, “He asked me my name and before I could finish he just wrote down Bond.”

“Yeah, and I was behind him in the queue and heard him say it was his surname, so I thought we were doing some formal thing?”

“Men!” Pandora said walking away, breaking into a smile as she thought to herself, “These two idiots are made for each other.”
