Re: Recruit! Recruit! Recruit!
I think you are right about gaining more members.

But... WdC isn't gay-friendly. It's neutral at best. I've had Romans, whatever verse it is, flung at me (obliquely, but we all know how obliquely kills). Just Don't Say Gay.

I'm going to rant ... WdC seems to be high-school educated small-town, inexperienced, close-minded ____... Reality centers around WalMart or Walgreens.

New people come here and figure this out very quickly. And stay because they feel 'safe', can block people, put E filters on everything... or leave.

It wasn't always so narrow in scope. Intellectuals and professionals left long ago. Nothing against amateurs, we all start as amateurs, but many never get better and never grow up! Fortunately, some do. Jamie comes to mind; but, she's all but left. We still connect on facebook.

I'm not happy about how this place has transformed into party-central. Yes, queer people can party (usually in a dark way) but being gay is no picnic. Being different is no picnic. Stik often addresses this as someone who's Asian and autistic. She's very much an outsider.

To reach more E rated individuals, E rated gay stories/poems need to be written and posted on the newsfeed. It can be done. But look at the ratings system and what is written. Blood-and-guts is welcomed. Anything mildly sexual is not.

As to your original point... I don't know the answer. People who feel unwelcomed tend to shut up or move on. Finding queer writers who wish to speak up isn't an easy task. I would say recruit among queer writers IRL, except... if they aren't going to be heard, accepted or supported...
