Thank you so much for your in-depth review. This story is entered in the 'Twisted Tales' contest, so I'd like to leave it as it stands. However, I'd like to do a re-write applying your critique to see how it would look and read. It will be interesting to compare the two versions.

As you've probably guessed, I've learned to write by studying my favorite 'thriller' authors techniques. I did note their use of italics and thoughts written in normal text, but I didn't know what it was called. So, yes I would love to learn more about 'free indirect discourse.'

It may take a day or two to think about your tweaks and complete the re-write.
