When the necessary level of membership is purchased again, a utility automatically unlocks the locked items within about 20 minutes. It looks like this has happened already.

The content of locked items of certain types can be exported at the free membership level by using the Portfolio Export tool.

These were important and valuable works that I specifically stored here on WDC as a backup to protect them.

While WDC can be used as "A" backup, it should never be the ONLY backup. You should always keep multiple backups of your work in different locations. I suggest you use the Portfolio/Portfolio Export now to copy your work to your hard drive and a flashdrive and cloud storage.
