When it comes to narrative non-fiction, is there a structural difference between standalone stories and those included as chapters in a memoir-style book?
I'm writing a memoir-style book about jobs I held over a fifty-year period. It's not just a collection of stories, but a narrative connecting the stories. The purpose of the book is to show what one must sometimes go through on the journey toward self-fulfillment- in other words, finding the answer to that age-old question: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
It seems like I'll have to revise my standalone stories in order for them to fit seamlessly into a book, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to proceed.
