Thanks for the post Lady of the Lake Azure! After reading your post I just wanted to comment, or speculate, on Starfleet regulations on why Riker wasn't courtmartialed for crashing the D in 'Generations'. Technically I can think of two reasons why Riker wasn't courtmartialled. It was the displacement wave that knocked the saucer section off its hinges and made it crash into the planet. Remember how those nasty Duress sisters caused a Warp Core breach of the D and they separated the saucer section? Then either the blast of the breach or the displacement wave forced the saucer section down onto the planet. Reason No. 2 was Deanna Troi was driving. Isn't that answer enough? As much as I love and respect our Empathic Counsellor... she was put on the helm and she could almost be blamed for crashing the ship. Since she did such a bang up job on the D that's why Picard put her back on the helm and crashed the E into Shinzons ship in Nemesis! But then again you could argue back that it was Riker who put Deanna on the helm in Generations and that's why the ship crashed. Oh well. Moral to the story is... never let Deanna drive. Your insurance premiums will go up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (A conversation between O'Brien and Bashir, ST: DS9, 'Take Me Out to the Holosuite') B - "What are you eating?" O - "I'm not eating, I'm chewing." B - "Chewing what?" O - "Gum, it's traditional. I had the replicator create me some." B - "You just... chew it?" O - "No, they infuse the gum with flavour." B - "What did you infuse it with?" O - "Scotch." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
