A place to share your reasons for writing. Where we understand, even if the world doesn't. |
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** We all have our reasons as to why we write. I wanted to give you a chance to share your reasons here. This is a safe place. Free of judgment. Here, you can explain what the rest of the non-writing world cannot understand. I want you to tell me, tell your fellow writers and friends, Why do you write? You may post anonymously if you wish. Note: Please keep content 18+ as I will post your reasons to this survey unless you request that I do not. Thanks for participating Our Reasons: ▼ 1. Pesky Amanda A.K.A. LadyNazlia : "My reasons for writing are both very simple and yet extremely complex. I primarily write for the sake of sanity. I write because it helps me to escape from the people and the things that I am forced to interact with on a daily basis. I write because it is the only way that I have found to release the nonsensical madness that is constantly playing in my head. I write because it is beautiful. I write because it is easy. But most importantly, I write to deal with my otherwise unmanageable emotions." 2. LJ hiding under the bed : "I may sound ridiculous but so what! A. I write for the same reason I breathe. I can go without writing a little longer than I can hold my breath but it's an involuntary reflex just like breathing. B. I also write because there are all these stories clamoring to get out of my head. C. I love stories and reading. I have all my life and so do my sisters. We read everything we could get our hands on. When we didn't have books we would fight over anything in the house that had writing on it. I learned I could make up my own stories and they lived in my head. Unlike books(which I still read every chance I had) the stories in my head could last as long as I wanted them to last. I could make the stories go the direction I wanted them to go. I did write them down but they lived in my head. I lived in my head. I still live in my head and I prefer it to where I physically live. The stories have to be written or they escape. My "imaginary friends" aren't always as cooperative as they once were. If you started reading this, you've probably given up by now so I'll end by saying that I'm not afraid of running out of things to write about. I'm more concerned about running out of time to write them all." 3. Anonymous: "I've always had journals and wrote stories and poems. Writing has always been an escape for me and now I realize has always been my best friend and closest ally. My writings hold my deepest darkest secrets, my hopes, and my fears." 4. Lilli ☕ still Quilling "I write because I have to! It's therapeutic, relaxing. Aside from my immediate family, no one knows I write. Writing helps me make sense of my world, my thoughts, my past and my future." 5. justsonali "I write because it's the only thing which makes me feel like I can do anything good and because it gives me an escape from reality. When I write, it just takes me to another world where I don't have to care about what others think, where I can be myself without the fear of being judged." 6. BradJShaw âš“ "I write s a form of relaxation & escape from the world." 7. ~Celeb~ " I think I have always loved to write. But at one point, I stopped writing. I am glad to be back at it. I have more support now that I did before. Writing gives me a sense of relief. I write to put my emotions into place, whether it is to make sense of them, or to just get them out. Writing allows me to clear my mind of the muddled thoughts. It gives me an opportunity to express myself and find new passions. Writing is the same as reading. It allows me to escape from the world sometimes. Othertimes, it is my way of facing things. Either way, writing is a part of me. It is in my genes, and in my blood, and very much a part of my life. I have missed it, and until recently, I didn't know how much. I have my family, and my writing family. It connects others. And that, is why I write." 8. I'm a frustrated writer "My reason to write is helping others, be it writing prompts to helping in complicated crocheting symbols. I have always loved to write as far back as I can remember. I do like fantasies, sci-fi, mysteries. My main purpose is uplift others in my writings, give hope, and much more. I have something to give/write and I want to explore this to be productive, useful, and the one holding out my hand. to write, I got a story to tell so I need to write about it!" 9. Vincent Coffin "I seem to have a whole world locked up in my head. Sometimes it all wants to be revealed so badly that I have to write it down. Sometimes an emotion washes over me that won't be denied, so I write. Sometimes I can't let a scene in my head go, so I write. I sometimes feel like I have nothing but blank sheets of paper in my head, and I have to fill them up with something...so I write. I have bits and pieces of paper with captured moments and ideas written on them that fill my life because, unfortunately, I don't always get it written here. That is something I need to change this year, so that I can make some sense of it all." 10. Anonymous: "I need this." 11. Anonymous: "I write to express myself and to learn English." 12. Mina~ "To express myself." 13. alancarlnicoll "I write because I want to change the world, to make it a better place. Money and fame would be nice, too. I also write to please myself, such as in my diary. Sometimes I write reviews on WDC and elsewhere, and sometimes I think I just like to hear myself "talk." I also write on Twitter, first to develop a "platform," which I understand is helpful in getting published, and second simply because I enjoy it." 14. Annwid "I write because i feel its selfish to keep a good story to yourself. Its like walking on air and not telling anyone what the experience was like! :)" 15. Anonymous " I write because I want to share my ideas. Simple as that! I like to express myself, but I really just want to be heard." 16. dragonwoman "If I didn't my head would explode and spew ideas and characters all over my space. Too messy to clean up, therefore I must and do write." 17. Cynaemon "Why do I write? Well, honestly, I don't write at all. In fact I haven't written a single word in YEARS. No, no one. It is that pesky elve that runs around in my head and who insists that he can write his own stories. Oh, he is a stubborn little lord. He regularly stomps around up there in my head. He often sits in the corner of my mind and pouts when I don't pay attention to him. He has been known to use a hammer to pound on the inside of my head at 3 A.M. And his constant litany is: "Write! Write! Write!" So not only do I not write, you see I don't really have to. I just let my elve go crazy, and, being his willing thrall, I type whatever he imagines. I write only to silence him." 18. Kenaron " I write because I've never had a real chance to feel yself be genuine with other people, some times I shared some of my inner working with people, but I never felt like they got to know me for real. Writing, for me, is a way of making something that speaks directly about something or another, but bypassing stuff like the way we balance our personal lives with the perception other people hold of us. It makes me feel like, even if they can't understand me fully, at least they'll be able to relate to something that I relate to, somthing that I felt important to write, and to let them read." 19. jbfantasy "I write because it lets me experience a world on paper and get away from reality." 20. Anonymous "I write because, it helps me fulfill a life long dream." 21. Tinker "I write to stretch myself to be more of me I write because I like words I write because I don't have a horse to ride anymore. I write to surprise myself.. I write to leave a piece of myself for my grandchildren. I write because I can." ~~Judi Van Gorder 22. Anonymous "I write because 1) I love stories, 2) I have many ideas for my own stories 3) It gives me something to do 4) I always wanted to be a writer ever since I was 5 5) I want my life to mean something, I want to be remembered" 23. Naturerose " When stories pop into my head, I write them because they want to be written. They are telling themselves. I'm merely their medium." " I write about fantasy and folklore because the people and places deserve to be remembered and honored. The villains and the hero's of legend, the old and the new, represent history and cultures half forgotten. They represent events, people and places that did if fact exist once, I try to breath life into them again." 24. tj~man-without a-handle "There are a few reasons why I write. One is my talent at spinning a good yarn. I have, ever since I can remember, been able to make up some great stories. Another reason why I write, is I love to read a great story; since I enjoy making up stories as well as reading them, I want to be able to bring enjoyment to others by sharing my talent. The greatest reason I write is because it's part of who I am. Being an introvert, I tend to function within myself and writing is how I interact with the outside world." 25. James Heyward "Because of that feeling. When I'm in the middle of my story and I know where everything goes and why. That is why I keep on writing. The sensation is so good, it has eclipsed any recollection of why I started writing in the first place. Whatever uncertainty, doubt, or frustration comes with writing- it's all worth it when you have hit your stride and the story starts telling itself." 26. Mari McKee " - I am an artist and the written word is my medium.I attempt to create a picture, painting with experiences, emotions, the senses, colors, beliefs and opinions. - Can I sway a reader to my point of view? - I once was blind and then I began writing, which opened my eyes and my heart. - I write in my effort to learn more about myself." 27. Anonymous " I write to express myself." 28. ZanyMe_X " I write because the way words can twine around one's heart and squeeze the deepest emotions out fascinates me. I write because sometimes I cannot change unfair situations around me, but on paper I can create an ideal world. I write because I have hope, because I can imagine a perfect world crafted from the flaws of today. I write because it is my release, it is my voice and I am yet to be heard. I write because, I AM BECAUSE I WRITE." 29. Anonymous "i write to remain calm. i write to get rid of emotions. i write to feel the pen on top of the paper. i write to enjoy. i write to pass my time . i write myself to sleep . i write so that i can feel perfect . i write to remove myself from reality ...which is painful. i write to motivate myself . i write sothat i cannot be lonely . i write because its freedom . i love writing" 30. queenkissy "Writing helps calm the insanity in my head. It seems therapeutic to get my emotions and thoughts written down so I can deal with everything easier. I have an easier time communicating with written words than spoken. When I am gone, my words will remain." 31. 🌕 HuntersMoon "My tongue trips while thoughts run free. Pray fingers fly where mouth is dumb. I'll let my pencil speak for me. Played upon paper in harmony, a symphony of what’s to come. My tongue trips while thoughts run free. Phrases lacking ordered symmetry re-sketched in pastel shades of plum. I'll let my pencil speak for me. Words lie scattered like debris to ready verse in mind succumb. My tongue trips while thoughts run free. For permanence, must patience be No mark unkind in total sum. I'll let my pencil speak for me. E’re its been in my history, never cake but always crumb. My tongue trips while thoughts run free. I'll let my pencil speak for me." 32. Loreli "I write because if I don't all the characters and stories in my head will drive me mad until I put them on paper" 33. Mary Ann MCPhedran " I write because I 'm retired and have to fill in the in my leisure time and do whatever I please, and love-" 34. sandyaspen "There is an artist living inside me that loves to paint a picture. What better to paint a picture than to put it in words? The reasons actually go much deeper than that. Life can deliver some pretty nasty blows to one's spirit. Writing about it can help lay demons to rest. My imagination kind of stinks, but writing about real life seems to come a little easier. It can also be a balm for the soul." 35. ochazuke "I like to write because I can go anywhere I want, do anything I want to do, and be anybody I want to be. I can create any living hing, or any place at all. I write because there aren't books that take me to all the places I want to go, meet all the people I want to see, and do all the things I want to do. I write because I love seeing all the different things I can create, and my imagination is the only limit I have." 36. truedavid "I write because there are many days that I face all alone. Being isolated is very hard at times and it has really had an impact on my life and more negative than positive. My lack of trust in others and what there motives are is a big reason why I have no friends. My family very rarely speaks to me. I have come to a place in my life where I've accepted being an outcast and a person to be avoided but not persecuted. I write because I believe God speaks to me great things and I'm hoping He will continue. In this life I know that we have an effect on others and my lifestyle may not have helped others very well so maybe something that I write will one day reach them. Thank you for a place to speak." 37. Annonymous "I write because I'm trying to get back to the old me. The Poet. The flash-fiction junky. The mistress of short-stories. I lost it all somewhere; even my vocabulary has diminished. I've forgotten everything I used to know, including poetry forms. I feel sluggish. Is it possible to grow less intelligent as you get older? Maybe it's from the many years I was on anti-depressants. They say you can lose your memories from that stuff. I've even lost precious moments while raising my daughter. I get only flashes really. Perhaps, just like any other unused muscle group, my brain has atrophied. This effect has bled into my work. I'm no longer the sharp, multi-tasking person I was years ago. My critical-thinking skills are nearly non-existent. So here I am, trying to get back what I've lost--and feeling more discouraged the harder I try. Maybe it'll never come back. Maybe it will. I suppose I'll keep writing until I find my answer." 38. Writerlady1904 "I've always liked toying with writing. Writing little short stories or articles about things that got my attention. Over the years though, writing has always been put on the back burner. Something to do when nothing else demands my attention. In 2015 I got very sick. I nearly lost one of my legs and nearly died several times in the process of getting well. I suddenly found myself disabled and unable to work a "normal" job. Everyone was so quick to get me on disability and some how it was decided I was no longer useful. Sitting at home, not working, not able to do a whole lot of anything. Adjusting to being in a wheelchair...I found myself so frustrated and angry, I began to write in a journal. I guess it was a slow realization. There may be a lot of things I can no longer do..but I CAN WRITE. I started wanting to get up out of bed just so I could write. I invested in a used computer and a second hand desk that was adjusted to allow my wheelchair to fit comfortably. Suddenly, writing is the center of my whole world. It is my freedom and my purpose for living. Now, I have no choice..I MUST become very good at it...so I can gain back my independence and prove not only to myself but those around me that I am ABLE. I am useful and I have a purpose. This is why I write. :)" 39. Lights Irish Eyes Shining "The reason I write now is to release stress." 40. jdennis "When I was only about one or two years old, my mother and I lived in isolation somewhere in the Arizona desert, outside of Tuscan. She would makeup stories and tell them to me because there were no televisions at the time, she couldn't afford a book or a radio and town, with the nearest library, was to far to walk, while carrying an eight pound baby in 100 plus degree temperatures. I wrote my first story in crayon. I was hooked." 41. Nitraits "In our lives, some of us question our existence and our purpose of being. The Divine Creator intended for us to be happy and to coexist with everyone and everything peacefully but sadly, that is not the reality. After music, writing is the second most popular form of expression. I write because I love and am passionate about this art form. I write to discover and uncover the truth about myself, who I was, who I am becoming and who I am supposed to be. I write to express my emotions. I write to connect to others, hoping to present an alternate reality from the one they exist in. I write to give praise, express gratitude and rejoice. I write because I am tired of the same story and desire something new and different. I write to experience playing the various roles of the several characters in the stories I create. But the main reason I write is to help the magic inside grow and to keep it alive so I can positively effect a change in the world one soul at a time." 42. R.E. Pete "I write to explore taboo subjects and understand what makes otherwise decent people do unspeakable things to those that they profess to love" 43. Lights Irish Eyes Shining "I write about the human condition. Mine" |
