I joined WDC in early August of 2011, and the site instantly caught my eye. At the time, I was seeking some kind of anonymous critique for my writing, you know, the impartial kind, which I had my suspicions was not something so easily come by amongst dear family and friends!

So I entered a couple of contests, found a little success here and there, and then College took flight, and that was the last WDC heard from me… up until this point.

I don’t consider myself a natural writer. Every now and again I get that tingle, that tiny spark in my imagination. I’ve always read prolifically, ever since my Mum decided that it was time I read my bedtime stories to her, an idea which I was mildly indignant at to begin with! Soon I developed an unfatigable craving to devour every book in sight: from cover to cover, every page that rested on the shelf of my school library. I remember throughout my pre-teen and teenage years, constantly urging my father for his library card so that I could double up to 18 books rather than the measly 9 I could get on my card alone. And even that wasn’t enough.

It was when I hit about eight that I realised I liked to write. I never did feel very interested by anything in or outside of school, nothing that I could call my own, except when I put pencil to paper somehow I just loved the scrawl and the incessant rambling of my own diction, the satisfaction was, incomparable. And it didn’t take long to realise that I sucked at writing. I was truly… horrible. So I read and I read, and I wrote, then I read some more. The perfectionist in me just couldn’t stand to be so bad! I wrote a novella: a re-imagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's ‘Treasure Island’, a newspaper issue, chapters to many unfinished novels, and hordes and hordes of unfinished short stories

I don’t write now as much as I used to. The gaps in between are longer than ever, but I still come back to it; every year I have something new to show. And what I've realised is that WDC has ignited the writer in me, brighter and more hungry because of the passions and the opportunities so rife throughout this site. That in itself is more than I could have asked for. And I would like to give something in return. A huge thank you this 2012 to Hannah ♫♥♫ and the Paper Doll Gang for being part of that promise!
