A hole where the eggs were, and the eggs.
A 'clutch' of tortoise eggs, and the hole where they came from.

Nature has her ways, she provides for all in ways which man can only look at, and sometimes it makes sense.

Of the full clutch of eggs, only two tortoises bred out. The rest of the eggs were food for many other creatures which live in the ground. A few seemed infertile as the yolk was still in the egg - rotten to the core.

These are Mountain tortoise.
