This is the Heraldic Device used by the "Pretender" King Stephen De Blois.
The Cousin of Empress maud (Matilda) usurpd the Throne of Norman Britian and crowned himself "King" regent against the Legal Claims of the Empress. Furious, maud sent an army and landed in England, invading it.
Many years of bitter Civil war and strife then followed before finaly, mauds own Son Hnery re claimed the throne from the "Pretender" Stephen.
This point in history now marks the point of the founding of the Angevine Empire.
Stephen died a year later, possibly he was poisoned...
