The entrance to the auction was like a gaping maw. An arched half circle leading inside the main keep, lit within only by magical lamps. The crowds moving to and from through this entrance was a constant, as never ending it seemed as the ocean's tides to the west of the great city. Within the auction was larger than some sizable villages could attest to.
Lining the walls were upraised pavilions and stage-like structures where auctioneers shouted prices and qualities of their wares. Those were the more common of slave, good money for good property... but the center of the huge market was where the truly priceless items were offered. Lit from above by the magical globes, an array of unique slaves were kept under constant guard. The buyers communicated with a wave of their hand, and the barkers never spoke above a guarded volume.
One such seller brought a young girl to stand before the small throng by a chain connected to the collar about her neck. She was dressed in white, pointed ears appearing through her beautiful nut brown hair. "This lovely article hails from the Thistlepath Forests. As you can all see, she is as beautiful as she is untouched. Guaranteed pure, and softer than silk. My starting price is fifteen hundred riol." The elven maiden, barely old enough to hold that title, watched through teared eyes as her life was bartered away. A buyer made the final bid and the girl was led away.
The barker grinned as he held out his hand to the stairs behind him. "As promised, I always have an item to interest you..."
