The oppening

It was about the middle of the night. It was fairly cold but there was no snow outside. You were on your computer in your room, half asleep. As you got up to turn it off and get some sleep, a loud crash came from outside than nearly made you fall out of your chair.

Quickly running downstairs, you open up the door, you notice a crater in the ground. You rub your eyes a bit. it didn't look like a meteor. You took a closer look.
