Title: Who's There?

Author: claire1love

Type: Poem

I would guess that the reference to the closet suggests that it is about homosexuality. If not, it does seem to fit.

The opening stanza seems to be a metaphor for when one learns that he is gay. There is bound to be a lot of emotions that go through ones thoughts: Shame, guilt, fear. None of them are fair to assume, but society forces people to feel this way.

Stanza four builds upon that, not wanting anyone to know about his/her sexuality. The closet symbol tends to be a little heavy handed, it seems to give your meaning away and is a little trite. Unless I have gone the wrong way with this altogether, lol

The poem ends well, as it comes to an epiphany of sorts. An understanding that we are all just people and that we should be treated as Martin Luther King said,

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

In your poem it seems to be sexual orientation, not racism, but it's the same in essence, we should be treated according to our character.
