Reviews are limited by at least two things: The reviewer's knowledge/background and the author's temperament. Sometimes the reviewer's understanding and interpretation of a piece misses the mark. When the author believes this is the case, he can become hurt or angered. Please don't be. This review is neither a condemnation of your work, nor an extolment. It's just my opinion, nothing more.

It is a difficult poem to comment on, for the reader doesn't know the issue and so cannot judge what changes are expected. If it is a parent, they want is best for their child, but sometimes they forget that the child needs to find his own way and to just be there to support him or her. But it is hard to sit back if they know the child is making a mistake, so I can see both sides of that issue.

Sometimes not wanting to change is a stand for freedom, but at other times it is a fear of the future. I don't know if either apply here, but I can understand the trepidation either way.

Hopefully there is a middle ground where you and the ones who expect you to change can meet. Who knows, some of their wishes might be valid, and something you can not only live with, but prosper under. However, like I said, I know know the issues here and giving advice under such circumstances would be foolish. But I can sympathize with you, and wish you the best of like maintaining Independence while at least thinking whether the changes expected are valid.
