Hello there, Bluesman, and happy 13th 'birthday' on here!
First off, thank you for those explanations! The only one that really threw me was 'gourd' though!
This is good, and it was pretty obvious that you either knew a lot about violins and their history, or you did a great job of BSing your way through it! *Laugh*. Nice to know it was the former.
Preston got lucky by coming across the violin, and in the end it would have indeed been in both their best interests if he would have sold the violin and spread the word about Blakely's shop. I can't say that's how it would have turned out in this day and age, but who knows?
Well done, my friend, but I did spot a couple of tiny niggles:
'Blakely(,) took the violin from Preston and immediately recognized the style of the old instrument.' (don't need that comma)
'Blakely(,) moved to his desk and carefully placed the violin...' (same here)
