This is actually pretty good! I found this on Read & Review, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I did enjoy it. However, if I hadn't just recently watched a couple of Harry Potter movies, I wouldn't have a clue what this was about, other than some wizard girl getting teased by her wizard friends! *Bigsmile*
Melda sounds like a decent enough soul, and her 'friends' have no right to treat her that way. You did a nice job of showing that she has to upstage them in order to get them to like her.
Alas, such is the plight of a young wizard. But at least she has Walnut, who sounds like a pretty neat creature that even I'd like to have as a companion! *Bigsmile*
