This tale of woe concerning the bullying that goes on in schools is something that could prove traumatic to a child. His fear and helplessness are brought to fore with precise description that takes me to the scene.
"My lunch sack lay ripped open. My homemade sandwich crushed by a footprint into the snow."

Can't parents and teachers do something about it, like bring a rule preventing such ragging?
It used to be the case in Indian colleges. Now there is strict legislation against this bad practice. It stopped forthwith in schools and colleges across the country, ever since.

His dreaming shows his high imagination. It is innocent and childlike. It is only logical that the dream ceased as you grew up and could defend yourself. I appreciate the way you brought this transformation from innocence to experience.
