It's HERE...

Well, here it is. The VIRUS. I hope you and your families are well, I hope that you are also being cautious and keeping things sanitary. Let's hope all those great habits stick! How does this affect WDC and our virtual world? I have a feeling everyone will have a 'little' extra time to hang out on our site and explore the deep and fascinating corners of our community. Our computer screens are enough 'social distancing' and no one has to feel alone. We're here!

This is also time to think about your goals for the next few months. Do you want to work on the novel you have no time for normally? Hey, how about giving a contest a try? Contest hosts have posted their pages on the "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com, give it a look and see what tickles your imagination. Try and branch out with poetry or a new genre. We also have a site contest "What a Character! : Official WDC Contest running with A TON of gift point prizes. A little effort on this contest and your winnings could keep your upgrade active for an entire year!

Another thing to think about, if you're hosting a regular contest or activity..."What if?" Not to wish anything on anyone, but what if you feel too ill to run your page? Do you have a back up plan? Yes, of course this is a writing website and it can probably wait, but it truly doesn't hurt to have a partner that can back you up. You might just be late from work, or your internet goes down (ack! help!) but having a back up plan isn't the worst idea. See if someone who regularly visits your page would want to give you a hand judging or encourage members to join the activity. Sometimes you might want a vacation or just need a break, a partner can help! Sometimes all you need to do is ask, and someone will be willing to step up and give you a hand.

This is also a great time to revamp a page, update something old and bring it back to life, or set up a future contest/activity to have ready for a certain holiday or season. Seeing some classic activities and contests return year after year warms my heart. I've been here for many years and know some members for more than a decade. WDC is a home away from home. Let's make this community vibrant with community interaction and support.

And as always, Write On!

Share Your Faith  (13+)
Are you spiritual? Religious? Or not at all? Can you incorporate this into your writing?
#2204562 by Kit of House Lannister

Excerpt: I love reading about other people's faiths. I also think that sharing our faiths is a good thing! That if we're going to create a better world, we've got to work together and in order to do so, we've got to learn about the other and understand the other. That's where this contest comes in and, hopefully, we can make this a fun rather than a daunting event.

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (February 19, 2020) question: Did you know about the countdown timer and how do you use it?

Robert Waltz quipped:
I use it to watch deadlines fly past in real time.

jjdel73 said: what is it?

Schnujo is Late to Lannister replied to jjdel73: # Feb 22, 2020 at 12:55pm
I'm actually the reason we have it. *Bigsmile* "Countdown Clock"   jjdel73 , it's a timer that counts down to the end of a contest, event, whatever. It's sort of like the count down at midnight on New Year's, except that you can set it to count down something months before it actually ends. *Smile*

woolwaulker posted: Nope, no clue.
