Standard time started on the 1st. The shift in time allows for more light in the morning so that kids going to school and people going to work wouldn’t be in the dark. I’ll be honest, I like standard time. Maybe I like the extra hour of sleep.
Thanksgiving is this month. It’s a time when families get together and celebrate, with a focus on all the good fortune they’ve experience throughout the year. Usually Turkey is on the menu, but did you that at the first Thanksgiving in 1621 the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians shared venison, lobster, eels, clams, pumpkins, squash, and berries? Since Thanksgiving this year will a smaller event for most of us, you could always try switching it up and eating a more original dinner.
It’s National Aviation History Month. I love flying and being around airplanes. My first airplane flight was from Boston to Atlanta in July 1986 when I joined the Army. It was an experience that still resonates with me.

1961 is the first flight by a man into space
Another holiday in November is Veterans Day. It’s celebrated on 11 November every year. It reflects the Armistice of the War to End all Wars which occurred on 11 November 1918 in the 11th hour. The initial concept was to honor the Armistice with parades and a brief suspension of business. Armistice Day became Veterans Day when passed into law by Congress on 13 May 1938. Some organizations that help to support the military and veterans are Operation Gratitude, Wounded Warriors, and the USO. Do you have a military organization you like to support? Please share
This leads me into my topic today, how is love/romance portrayed during war? There’s almost always a “Romeo & Juliet” quality. For example, from the American Civil War there’s a Union soldier and Southern belle who falls in love. From World War II the most heart wrenching romance is a German soldier and young Jewish woman. From the Cold War, it’s the attraction between a Russian and an American. “Dances with Wolves” highlights a romance between a white man and a white woman who embraces Native American culture. Can you think of any other wartime “Romeo and Juliet” romance?

Some “classic” wartime romances that come to my mind are Scarlett and Rhett from “Gone with the Wind.” There’s “Pearl Harbor” with Ben Affleck, “Dr. Zhivago,” “Dear John,” any many others. So what do they have in common?
I think with most military wartime romances some elements they have in common include intense, heightened emotion. Couples feel emotions passionately and fast. Attraction quickly leads to intense feelings of lust, and that lust can quickly turn into passion. That passion can last a life time. I’d like to share some real life wartime military romances.
FROM WORLD WAR II:
When Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia on September 1, 1939, 20-year-old British hairdresser Horace Greasley was drafted into the British Army. Unfortunately, the aspiring barber was better with scissors than he was with a rifle, and he was captured and sent to a Polish POW camp almost immediately. Most people would be too devastated by this turn of events to even think about scoping out potential romantic opportunities, but Horace Greasley is not most people.
A few days into his imprisonment he met Rosa Raubach, the beautiful daughter of the camp's quarry director, and the two began a secret affair that lasted for nearly a year before he was transferred to a different prison. But the story doesn't end here — instead of giving up on his prison girlfriend, Horace decided he was up for a challenge, and continued the relationship under the Nazis's noses. With the help of his friends he would crawl under a section of barbed wire fencing to escape back into his old prison and reunite with his lady love, rather than search for a way to neutral territory.0:15 / 01:48
The pair kept up this forbidden rendezvous about three times a week for five years. Amazingly, Horace and Rosa were never found out by the Nazis — the only thing that stopped the couple was the liberation of Poland at the end of the war, when they went their separate ways. Yes, we still go to the DQ. I LOVE paranormal romance. I have a novel written and on the back burner to get edited. What if my flawed MC finds a little girl who seems to have more power than any of his friend's Kindred Kids? What if he has to rescue her and her mother then get them to safety before the "Bad guy" can get a hold of the little girl? Then in the next book MC's brother discovers a Kindred "healing" against hospital rules. When he follows her to New Mex where he finds she was raised by a local Shamman who knows what she is? Both books end with the MC and woman falling in love. I have two more books I've thought up in this series. I just need to finish the novel I'm writing now.
I love it! I’d rather have a lot of ideas to be developed in the future than have writer’s block!
