About This Newsletter

“I believe the last thing I read at night will likely manifest when I'm sleeping. You become what you think about the most.”
Raymond John

"It is for us to pray not for tasks equal to our powers, but for powers equal to our tasks, to go forward with a great desire forever beating at the door of our hearts as we travel toward our distant goal."
Helen Keller

"You measure the size of the accomplishment by the obstacles you have to overcome to reach your goals."
Booker T. Washington

Letter from the editor

Have you made spiritual goals for 2021? A spiritual goal can be anything such as setting aside a specific time for prayer, meditation, reading the sacred scriptures, or reading a book that helps your creativity or gives something positive to contemplate.

Why is it important to make new spiritual goals each year? They are important because they keep us grounded in our spiritual path. They also help guide us along that path, and assist us to determine the road to take if we find ourselves wondering if we're on the right spiritual path. Spiritual goals also help us overcome obstacles that block our achievement of our non-spiritual goals.

Besides prayer, meditation, and scripture reading, what are some other spiritual goals? One is keeping a spiritual or gratitude journal. A spiritual journal can be used to write your thoughts on the scriptures, insights or epiphanies you receive through meditation, record your dreams, or write poems or prose about your spiritual path. A gratitude journal shows you the things you have to be thankful for, and help keep a positive outlook no matter what is happening in the world around you.

What are some of your spiritual goals for 2021? Some of mine are to recite the noonday obligatory prayer, and every Tuesday say a prayer with a friend who calls me for our weekly devotional/prayer meeting. I've also decided to read two books, one is a book of scripture and the other gives me insight into the life of Baha'u'llah.

Excerpt: Can we live in the world and still be faithful to God? We know how God gave Israel the law and how they were largely unfaithful in keeping the commands. God reconciled us to His presence. We choose it. 2 cor 5:17-21 says we are not to live according to the flesh. Wow! Every commercial is an add to the flesh. Love God is not even in the mix of things. It is taken out of schools and we are given an evil eye if we talk of it in the work place.

Was the Christmas Star real?  (E)
A scientific answer to the Christmas star, proving it's reality.
#2110837 by Chris Breva

Excerpt: Yesterday's blog entry was how science has to my satisfaction become a basis for my Christian faith. Today I am going to examine scientific evidence for the reality of the Christmas star. The timing of the star will appear different than the date on which we celebrate the birth of Christ, but the Bible gives us no authorization to celebrate His birth to begin with. Christmas is a man made celebration that came about because the Roman church wanted to prevent recidivism to paganism in celebration of the winter solstice, which for pagans had been a major holiday. The birth of Christ was actually probably in the summer. The Bible doesn't actually say but hints are given. One hint is that it occurred after Augustus Caesar ordered all the citizens of the Empire to return to their homes for a census. Such an order would have been given in the spring to allow for travel time, the census itself, and a safe return before winter set in again. Even Caesar had common sense.

Excerpt: It would certainly seem reasonable to describe the nemesis of faith as doubt. But it is also most reasonable to say, that, when speaking of doubt, we are touching one of the great taboos of the Christian Church. Among Christians, personal doubt is a subject only spoken of with concealed lips and in hushed tones.

Mary Ann MCPhedran writes: I'm MARY ANN MCPHHEDRAN, I have always believed that there is one God and no matter where you live you will worship and serve him in your own way' When I was a child I was raised by my granny and she and the family were catholic, but as a child if there was a religious group came into the street such as the salvation army I was in the front row of there service, My grandmother just smiled at me and lett me carry on, but she also made sure I was in the front row at the children's mass in the catholic church on Sunday. I like todays beliefs in unity worship.
