About This Newsletter

Hello there!!! My name is Lilli and I am your guest editor for this week’s newsletter! About three-and-a-half years ago, I was a Newbie too! I want to take this opportunity to share with you ways that I got involved and have come to love this community.

Letter from the editor

I always wanted to be a writer; ever since I was a kid actually. I did spend a few years working as a technical writer. Despite that job being interesting, it was not fulfilling. One afternoon while scrolling a social site, I saw a link about writing and clicked it. It led me to an old article about the best online writing communities and Writing.com was on that list. As they say, ‘the rest is history’. Here I am writing to you about the site and people I have grown to love.

So, back to the title of this newsletter, “The ‘U’ in Community!”. Registering for an account makes you a member of the site, but, if you want the full ‘community’ experience you need to jump in with both feet. Remember, we were all newbies at one point, so don’t be shy or afraid. Everyone is helpful and willing to answer questions or point you in the right direction to get those answers.

*Gem* First things first: Set up your BioBlock and Biography.
Doing this serves as your introduction to the community. When members visit your portfolio, they can get a glimpse of who you are, your writing preferences, and whatever information you’d like to share.

*Gem* Ways to Reach Out:
Visit the "Noticing Newbies Forum. Post a new message to say hi and introduce yourself, read other members’ posts, and maybe reply to them. This is how YOU become part of the community - by reaching out and interacting. There is no published list of Newbies, so we often don’t know you are there unless you make the first move. I promise, no one bites!

Another great place to check out is the "Writing.Com General Discussion Forum. This is a wonderful place to chat about writing, discuss goals, and opinions.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Newsfeed! This is the place to be! A lot of exciting things get shared here; from greetings to announcements, to giveaways and games. I guess you could say it’s like hanging out at the water cooler, lol. Feel free to post and comment on others’ posts.

Remember, there are writers of every level on this site. Beginners to professionals, and everything in between. What brings us all together is our shared love of writing, reading, and encouraging one another. So, please don’t be shy or scared. Reach out and join in the community.
