Cold Weather

There is humor in cold weather.

Thousands of video compilations showing people slipping on ice don't lie.

Another source of cold weather humor is when the weather man in Florida warns people of the incoming cold as the map behind him shows 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Wisconsin, in the meantime has nothing but a tired smile for that. Their 45 degrees Fahrenheit come with a minus symbol in front. This is why people in Florida and people in Wisconsin go fishing in entirely different ways.

Florida man went to a pond in late October 2020 and ended up wrestling an alligator to save his dog, all that while keeping his cigar safely in his mouth. Okay, that's pretty impressive. But he needed tropical weather that is conducive to encountering alligators in ponds for that.

Sixty-six Wisconsinites gave Florida Man a run for his money on Thursday, February 4 by going fishing.

They went fishing on ice and ended up getting stuck on an ice floe in Green Bay with a widening rift between their icy floe and the shoreline. This could have gone terribly wrong. But nobody was injured because the U.S. Coast Guard is awesome that way. Now that everybody is safely back on land, had time to drink something hot, and take a hot bath, it is funny.

Those hearty people in the cold areas really like to go out on the frozen water. Then, they punch holes in the water to get to the fish below. Every now and then, the ice doesn't play along. In 2009, 134 fishermen were rescued from Lake Erie and in 2019, fourty-six were rescued while more than 100 self-rescued.

How much longer until Great Lakes winter fishermen give Florida Man a run for his fame?

By the way, if you think writing about cold weather, getting wet, and being miserable isn't fun, watch Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush for some cold fun.

I received one reply to my last Comedy newsletter "Orange You Glad

Brooklynn York wrote: I found the article refreshing although I wasn’t to sure about the repeated dramatization about the extended elbow. Nevertheless it was fun and caught my attention.

Thank you for reading and commenting. But the constant reminder of how stupid the extended elbow is, is to be just as annoying as someone loudly talking into a phone while using up as much real-estate as possible by extending their elbow.
