It is easy to get behind or miss something. We all have different types of distractions with work, classes, family affairs and a plethora of other things that we do on a regular basis. Sometimes something slips the mind. It might be a late newsletter, a missed contest prompt or an assignment because your professor in a challenging class decided to put an assignment on the same day as the final exam. Things happens and sometimes it's the online that has more of a chance to slip the mind.

Contests have many different challenges and if it's one that has more than a single round, it can be difficult at times to keep up. There are a few areas in particular where one might forget something when running a contest. Take these into consideration when preparing for and while handling your own here on the site.

Prompts - It can be a challenge when running a contest often to keep up with prompts. This may be more common for those that change the prompt more often, such as weekly or even daily. Even if you have had the contest for a long time with the same day for changing prompts, it's possible to slip and miss one.

Deadlines - This may seem more like a writer miss than a contest one but it's possible to be distracted at the end of a challenge and to miss even closing a round. Something could pop up that takes a whole weekend, distracts your thoughts then before you know it a week has gone by before you remember the contest was supposed to end. Easy enough to fix if it's the one round but that could delay the next round if it's a contest that is run on a continuous basis.

Results - Then there are the results. Contests that are done on a whim or those done less often can slip through the cracks with this one, though any can have a missed round where the results get delayed or forgotten. Not every round gets enough entries to require a post with the results but if there are some then it can happen. People await to find out how well their entry did but maybe that doesn't get posted in a timely fashion.

Reviews - The last one is for those that send out reviews for entries. Not every contest gives out reviews or feedback with the entries but it's a good thing to try and offer. When a contest has many entries, one of them might slip through the cracks or a distraction can come up over the time it takes to get it all done. Most are understanding, so even if there is a delay, it's good to try and get them sent as soon as you can even when there has been a miss.

We all are human, or I'm assuming most of us are at least. We can make mistakes, get distracted or forget something. Even though of us that have managed contests for years. There is a lot of work that goes into the management of contests and activities online. Whether it's a simple oops or something more serious in life that got in the way. A slip or forgetting may happen and it's okay. We just have to remember at some point and correct the part that we missed.
