Letter from the editor

Congrats! You've joined the premier peer-to-peer writing site on the Internet today. More than 20 years old (and that's ancient in internet years) Writing.com thrives on member interaction.

Not only can you create your own Portfolio hosting a select number of items , but you can meet with fellow writers who share your particular style of writing, whether short stories, poetry, novels or what-have-you.

You joined ostensibly having some writing skills. Many folks want to improve their writing. Some may want to give back to members by offering their services to members. Where do you fit in? More importantly, where do you want to fit in?

*Bulletg* Do you wish to improve your writing skills?

Some member-led groups offer writing courses covering topics of grammar or punctuation, various writing styles such as essays or poetry, general support groups, and more. Go to the Groups page under Browse By Type in the Navigation menu, and type your choice in the search window.

*Bulletr* Are you looking for a writing mentor or partner, or to be a mentor for someone else?

Talk with fellow members of groups that feature genres or writing styles that you wish to pursue. Perhaps you'll find that special person who will push you to meet your desired goals.

Perhaps you have some skills that you can share with other members. You may come across a group called "Rising Stars of WdC. This group used to pair mentors with writers, but is currently being re-vamped. Stay tuned for the remake.

*Bulletv* Are you here seeking reviews of your work?

There are many groups that specialize with providing reviews of members' works. Many such groups are listed on the WDC Reviewers page. At the top of this page are linked pages including the Most Credited Reviewers, etc. Chances are that members listed on this page may offer more helpful reviews. Just remember that not all reviews and not all reviewers are created equal. Reviews are just one person's opinion. Take what you think will help you and disregard the rest.

The bottom line is Writing.Com offers a lot to its members--some are features come from the site itself, but much help may come from members themselves. Will you be one of those members who gives back to other members? Or, will you be a taker

I believe there's no wrong answer. Getting involved is the winning solution.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet* Don't Be Shy! Write Into This Newsletter! *Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the mailbag:

From Vaishali : I am a newbie too. I love the way you have dealt with the answers. I am still learning from my experience and support of fellow members. Thank you for this informative newsletter.

You're welcome. And the very best of luck with all your writing endeavors.

From hbk16: The functionality of this wonderful website is somehow very complex and it is always good to show all members, not only newbies, how to proceed.

         I always appreciate your comments.

From the Newsfeed: This response is actually to a Newsfeed post, "Note: View this Note", highlighting Kit of House Lannister 's "Spiritual Newsletter (June 9, 2021).

From G. B. Williams : The ability to write, store, and come back to what I have written. I have written almost all of my life. However, with no place to keep it, moving here and there, and never developing a storage system for my writings, many of them are lost forever.

Since coming here, I have been able to store and keep more of them, although I still write on everything in all of the wrong places, but manage to move my writings here when I remember to do so.

Expensive, but reliable storage.

Another things that I like is that on occasion someone else will read and rate what I have written. That is one heck of a feature that I do not get anywhere else. That alone is worth the membership.

So, far the past nine years, I have had a safe place to store my writings, AND someone has read and commented on them.

         Well said!
