Writers Need Reviewers

You have seen this bit of advice time and time again. If you want to make your story really good, you have to rewrite it, edit it, kill your darlings ... in a nutshell, there is no such thing as a perfect first draft.

Writing.Com is the perfect place to both post your first drafts, get reviews, and then make your writing better based on the reviews you received.

This is not a one-way street! Nobody owes you a review. Nobody has to click on your item, read it, and then take the time to give you thoughtful advice or even just observations. If you post something to this site and you want to get it reviewed, do something for it.

Send reviews. Start reading the writing by other authors in the same genre you write in, and send them a thoughtful review.
This will do two things for you:
1. You can see how others do it and learn from that.
2. Sending them a review makes them more likely to come to your portfolio and read & review in return.

Post your writing to the Newsfeed. The easiest way to get your piece seen is to post it to the newsfeed. However, the newsfeed is limited to your followers and those few members who will frequently check out the Community view. Another drawback to the newsfeed is that it is fleeting. Each new post pushes yours further down until it's too far down and nobody will check it out.

Post your writing to review request pages.
"Please Review This is a page to request reviews for static items and books.
"The Shameless "Plug" Page This is the one and only Writing.Com Shameless Plug Page!

Find members who are willing to review your writing:

Get involved in genre specific writing and reviewing groups. Search for groups or forums and then enter the genre you are writing in. Email the forum hosts and group owners to find out if a group is still active. Follow all the steps outlined to become part of writing groups within the site.

As you see, as an aspiring writer, this site can and will give you a whole lot to become the best writer.

I received these replies to my last Contests and Activities newsletter "Trinkets

Elfin Dragon-finally published wrote: I have a trinket on my profile page for anyone who wants it.

It's not easy to find, but I found it in your newsfeed by searching for "trinket."

Shadow Prowler-Spreading Love wrote: Great subject! Loved reading more about trinkets and their many uses.

Yes, they can be so much fun. ... and distracting.
