Hi - I'm Sophy , your editor for this edition of the Comedy Newsletter.
It's been a while since I dipped my toes into the Comedy Newsletter pool. I am currently a regular Spiritual Newsletter editor and wrote for the Comedy Newsletter for 8 years (my last issue was in February of 2015). So it's great to be back after all these to exercise my funny bone.

So .... What's New?
My last Comedy Newsletter was published in February 2015, just a few weeks after I had double knee replacement surgery. (Yes, I had both of my knees replaced - at the same time! To say I lost my sense of humor for a couple of months would be, well ... accurate! The surgery was the easy part (I was knocked out cold) - but the physical therapy was torturous, to put it mildly.
That said, if I could go back in time, I'd do it all over again - it was the best decision I ever made, and I have no regrets. I have two shiny (I assume they are still shiny) titanium knees that have kept me upright and mobile for the past 6+ years, and for that I am grateful. It was hard, but totally worth it. And in the end, my sense of humor turned out not to be lost after all - in fact, it's probably what got me through the whole thing.
So what's happened since then? Well ... A LOT! Among other things ... a reality tv personality became president, a global pandemic left us smack in the middle of the movie "Groundhog Day" for over a year, and Mr. Sophy and I retired ... sort of ... at the end of 2020.
We retired from our career or "real job," so to speak, after 31 wonderful years. However, we are still working, since we are a few years away from 65. We started a small business 11 years ago, and we are still doing that. So when people ask "how's retirement?" it's tough to answer because I'm pretty sure they think we are sitting around all day eating bonbons and watching the soaps (are soap operas even a thing anymore?) - but we only do that for half of the day. 
In response to their query, we explain, "Well actually, we're not fully retired yet, we are still working ..." By that point they've either walked away or their eyes are glazed over. As it turns out most are just being polite and don't really care to hear how retirement is or isn't going. Nothing more boring than "retired" people, I guess.
So how is retirement going? Thanks for asking! Well, as I said, we're not fully retired yet, we are still working  - but it's our business so we set our own hours, which allows for a certain amount of freedom we didn't have previously. Except, well, for COVID. When most people retire, if they are lucky they spend more time traveling. So far, that hasn't been the case for us. We basically haven't left our home in over a year, except for two exciting trips out of town earlier this year to get vaccinated - we went to our state fairgrounds because it was easier to get an appointment there than locally. And I am not kidding when I say those two trips were the highlight of 2021 so far!
We tentatively have plans to travel west in the late Fall, if it's safe to travel. Until then, we'll keep enjoying retirement by working, and sticking close to home - which, now that I think about it, isn't a whole lot different than 2020! How's retirement? Ask me next year ...

Hi Sophy! I'm so glad the surgery went well and you're recovering quickly. I can't imagine how much pain you must have been in during PT. I bet by the summer, you'll be planning to take up jogging and run a marathon!

Six and half years out from surgery I'm doing well - not running a marathon, but can take a nice walk with Mr. Sophy and our dog now!

With two new knees, you're not the "Six Million Dollar Man," you are the 12 Million Dollar Lady. Congratulations on making it through this tough time and I wish you a continued recovery and many happy walks with your new knees. Judging from pop-culture, young people turn to cyborgs, judging from real life, it's more old people becoming human machines. My grandmother has two artificial hips and one artificial knee. To think your generation still used rotary dial phones ... (joking)

Oh, Sophy, you are the funniest lady I know, next to Katya the Poet  , and one of my dearest friends. The fact that you had both knees done and could still laugh about it, tells exactly what kind of soul you are. Get well, laugh often, eat your cheerios. Anyway, that's what my Mom used to say.
