Titles

A good title can catch your viewers' eyes. It can capture their interest and compel them to click on your item. With so many contests & activities going on at the same time, a good title can help you stand out!

I'm not the best at coming up with titles and names. The other day my spouse was creating a character in a video game and asked for help with their character's name, and I cringed! (It turned out, they just wanted me to choose between three names they had picked out, which is a much easier task!) There are some strategies that can help when coming up with names and titles, though!

*Idea* Be Creative! - Obviously, if you want to stand out, a creative and unique name can help! These can be the toughest to come up with, but possibly the most rewarding! Puns and turns of phrases work well for these. Try to get your viewer to think, "I wonder what that's about..."

*Idea* Be Descriptive! - You do want to at least give a hint of what your item is about. Too much mystery might leave a viewer confused and make them pass by your item all together. Also, make sure it's somehow related to your item. If it's not related at all and only designed to be shocking or surprising, some viewers may not respond well.

*Idea* Name Generators! - At least for character names, I've found the use of name generators can be helpful! I use them for D&D characters! Often it will give me a name that inspires something similar that is more suitable.

*Idea* Ask for Help! Don't be afraid to ask friends and other WDC members for help! Create a poll or post in a discussion forum (like "Writing.Com General Discussion for ideas!

Also, maybe don't put too much pressure on yourself. I'm totally guilty of this, but sometimes a name isn't everything. It doesn't have to be the most creative and unique! I once had a pretty successful contest called, "Spidey's Weekly Poetry Contest." *Laugh*

As always, keep on writing! *Quill*
