Letter from the editor

Dame Agatha Christie, was born Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller. She was born on September 15, 1890 in Devon, England. She married in 1914, and published her first novel, "The Mystery Affair at Styles", and in this book, she introduced the world to the Belgian we all came to love, Hercule Poirot. He was a master at solving the mystery and she always seemed to place her characters in fantastic places for crime and murder.

I remember reading my first Agatha Christie story as a young child, my eyes were so wide as I was pulled into this world of intrigue, cross country train travel and death from a murderer who I was blind to discover till the bitter end. My first foray was her novel, "Murder on the Orient Express", and I could not put this book down. This story did not come from her writing chest until 1934, as she had written another fan favorite, "The Death of Roger Ackroyd" and then she lost her mother to an illness. Finally, another favorite of mine, "And Then There Were None", is a masterful stroke of mystery genius writing that will be hard to put down is another one I will recommend you check out, if you haven't already.

Agatha Christie continued to write even though she suffered through an affair that led to her divorce and many more stories of deceit, loss and the lies that people love to weave in everyday life. This is what made, and makes her stories so engaging is that they involve regular people that do horrendous things but she was always able to see through to solve the crime, whichever one produced itself.

Dame Agatha Christie lived a long full life and died at the ripe age of 85, of natural and not unnatural causes as she loved to write about in her books. She had a tremendous sense of the world around her and a keen awareness of human nature that she shared with all of us through her writing. Hopefully, you will seek out one of her books and experience brilliant mystery writing at its best!
