On Hosting

It can be tough deciding what type of contest or activity to host once you decide that you want to start one. Should it run weekly? Monthly? Should it have the same theme every round? There can be so many questions! Here are some things to think about:

*Checkg* How much time do you have? Running a daily or weekly contest is a lot of work! Make sure you have plenty of time for duties that will need to be taken care of quickly, like answering questions, posting updates, judging and awarding winners. It's more likely that you'll have work to do on a daily basis.

*Checkg* Some people get bored with sameness, and some crave it. Both are perfectly fine, and you might want to think about your own preferences when you host a contest! Will you get bored with reading similar topics over and over, or is that something you'd enjoy? Personally, I hosted a weekly poetry contest for quite a while with a new prompt every week, and that worked well for me! I liked reading poetry consistently, but each week had a new theme!

*Checkg* Ratings accepted. I think it's something overlooked, but consider what rating limit you'd like for your entries. If you have an adverse response to certain topics, you may want to mention that to potential entrants or limit ratings (13+ and below, for instance) to limit the amount of entries you wouldn't want to read. Be open with your viewers & readers whenever possible!

*Checkg* Length limits. On a related note to ratings, make sure you have the time available to closely read each entry. You may want to consider a word limit on your entries (and even limit to one entry per person). Take a good look at your schedule and try to determine how much time you'll need for reading and judging.

*Checkg* Lastly, be flexible! If something isn't working for you or you need to make changes, don't be afraid to do so! Just let your participants know of any changes being made so as not to cause confusion.

As always, keep on writing! *Quill* And be kind, but honest! *Heart* *Smile*
