Welcome to this issue of the Noticing Newbies newsletter. Join me as I take you into some nooks and crannies of Writing.Com that you may not have found time to check out yet. This newsletter is about and for you. And for you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

As I said last month, the nuts and bolts of Writing.Com are contained in the Navigation menu located on the left side of each page under the Writing.Com banner. Many links inand these sections will help you over and over again.
The bottom three sections of the menu are the topic of discussion for today's newsletter.
Section Four: Arguably, the meat of the Navigation menu is contained in section four, beginning with Community. If you look carefully at the far right side of each topic link, you'll notice a grayed > symbol, This indicates that the link opens another menu of sub-topics. Clicking on those links without the >, opens to a new window.
 Community: Consider what the word community means to you and you'll have some idea of the types of subjects listed in this category. Most deal with members, or some aspect of membership, including Activities, Contests, and aspects of Community Recognition; Message and Review forums; and an array of options highlighting Items.
Authors: This link opens a page to WDC authors. Authors are Writing.Com members who have created at least one item for their portfolio. If you are looking for a specific Author, type the handle or username into the search box. The page contains WDC's Top Author lists, as well as a link to every active author on site, currently more than 96,000 persons. Click in the box immediately preceding the Search box to refine the author listings.
Reviewing: This link opens a page listing all public reivews over the past 31 days. It also contains links to active and most credited reviewer, reviewing groups, and other aspects of reviewing on WDC. Here you can rewards specific reviewers for quality reviews.
Blogging: Many WDC member maintain Blogs. You can find a listing of active bloggers with the most active Blogs listed first.
Browse By Type & Browse By Genre: Though these are separate links in the menu, they display information in a similar manner. Browse By TYPE lists all the Item Types, such as Static Items, Books, Forums, Images to name a few. Click on the desired item type to display those particular items. Perhaps you wish to find some examples to help you create your own articular item. Browse By GENRE displays one of more than 90 active genres on WDC. If you want to find History or Detective items, click on the appropriate genre link.
Writing Resources & Writing.Com Tools: Resources include activities to help your writing journey, such as Publishing, Marketing, Editing, and Writing Classes, to name a few. Tools include Help documentation and Help forums, Portfolio information, and things to stimulate your muse.
Section Five: This is an informational section containing the official WDC date and time in Eastern Standard time. Most WDC contests and activities use this time for their deadlines and suspenses. It also provides some statistical information regarding members and guests online .
Section Six: These are Sponsored Links. You can advertise a personal item or link using the Writing.Com BidClick System. It will display here rotating among nine sponsored items each time a page is listed. You can find more information on this topic at "BidClick System: Sponsored Items, Links & Genres" .
Pretty much any piece of information, or member, or item, help with Writing.Com can be found in the Navigation menu. Spend time poking around it and learning how to best use Writing.Com to help you achieve your writing goals.

Indeed there is. I've been a member for almost 14 years and I'm still learning things about the site. The good news is another member has already researched or has accomplished what you may be trying to find. Help is a click away on one of the support forums.
From jondakota: Helps the most: Writing.com 101!! Hardest part: Message Forums because they are extremely difficult to follow with re: re: re: re: re: re: re: etc. Wish it looked like the Newsfeed where each new conversation is nested in it's own.
From GeminiGem of House Lannister  : You can change your view of the messages in message forums from unthreaded (with all the re: re: re:) and threaded (nested). It is super easy! Right next to where you click to post a new message there is a toggle for "switch to threaded view." Check it out, you will love it!
From jdennis  : The part of WDC that helps me the most is reviewing other members’ work. As I identify minor issues with other people’s work, those findings translate into my work, which helps. The hardest part for me to use is easy. I resist posting much of my writing because I’m afraid no one will help me due to them not wanting to hurt my feelings or thinking it is not worth the time and effort. However, over the years, I have learned that many people on this site feel the same way, and I am just one of the crowd. People here genuinely want to help. So, if you have those same fears, push them into that dark closet in the back of your brain and post without worry

From Genipher : dblameck (David) , I agree. And, funnily enough, I didn't start learning how to navigate this site or how contests, etc worked until my 13-year-old joined, a few years back. Now she's 17 and I still have times where I'm asking her, "How do I do 'this' again?" 
It's helpful to have a teen who knows everything. 
I think a lot of parents might enjoy a similar situation.
