Welcome to this issue of the Noticing Newbies newsletter. Join me as I take you into some nooks and crannies of Writing.Com that you may not have found time to check out yet. This newsletter is about and for you. And for you seasoned members, I hope you'll find something you can take from my ramblings.

September 1st will mark the 22d anniversary of Writing.com. Strictly speaking, twenty-two years ago. this site began life as Stories.Com. The name change to Writing.Com (WDC) occurred on 12 December 2002 ("PLEASE READ: Important News!" .
Much will be written in the various newsletters over the next several weeks about the coming festivities.
Twenty-two years is very unusual for an internet based entity; actually, 22 years marks a successful business by any standard. WDC’s continued success depends on members like you.
As a Newbie, the first week of September will be your first (and arguably only) all-encompassing site party festivities. There will be writing contests, auctions, raffles, reviewing contests, introduction of new site features such as merit badges, awardicons, emoticons, skins, and quite possibly features to make using WDC easier. Literally millions of gift points will be up for grabs in all these events. You might even win a paid membership or something from the WDC Shop.
The official WDC events will take place during the first week only, while member-led actIvities may last the entire month. With so many events and activities forthcoming, you’ll want to plan your participation accordingly. You might easily spend hours each day on site.
"Writing.Com Party Central 2023!" will be updated to reflect the 2022 anniversary events and activities. This is your party source. The link will be listed at the top of the Navigation Menu.
Also, consider making "Site News & Announcements" a favorite. Every day during the first week, The StoryMaster  and The StoryMistress  will post changes, additions and special announcements to the news link.
Make plans now to spend some extra time on WDC next month. I believe you'll be glad you did.

From Louis Williams : If I can offer constructive help, I do try. But if I can't offer anything constructive to them, I honestly just try to stay out of it and let someone else better suited offer assistance.
From Showering Dutchessbarbie.  : If it is something I know, if not, I either see if WDC 101 can help or if another member can help and will tag that member that knows the topic better.
From Starling  : I try. I don't always have the answers so my assistance may only be to try and send them off in a direction to get help. Over the years I've had many people help me and I want to pass it on.
From s }: I help only if I think I have something to offer. The problem is, as an Australian, the way we learn some grammar and spelling is different to the USA, so I try not to do anything that is on that border, but when it comes to traditional publishing, I have some experience, as well as dealing with edits, beta readers, etc. So if I can help I will.
From a personal standpoint, I've been helping people almost as long as I've been a member. I learned early that researching a particular problem was the best way to help not only that person, but also myself.
From Elisa the Bunny Stik  I offer frameworks but don't get too specific. I have found that the more specific I get the more defensive the reaction is.
I've found that to be the case as well.
From Leslie Loo : Of course, I would if I knew what I'm helping them with.
From elephantsealer : I would definitely give a hand; that is, if I can...
From Rehtaeh Daens : I do my best to help when I can. Sometimes there are topics I don't understand myself, in which case I just do some research and continue helping the person.
From TheBusmanPoet : I would love to but I found how terrible I am. I usually leave it to the ones who are more experienced in helping.
Helping others sometime takes one out of his or her comfort zone.
