About This Newsletter

"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity..."
Bahá’u’lláh, Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh, CXXX

“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.”
Henri Frederic Amiel

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

"When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude."
Gilbert K. Chesterton

Letter from the editor

A few years ago, I took the 365-Day Gratitude Challenge--I found that finding one or two things to be thankful for every day was as difficult as being grateful in adversity. Instead of giving up, I pushed forward. At the end of the 365-days, I found I had more things in my life to be grateful for.

The 365-day gratitude challenge was not the first gratitude challenge I accepted. I started out slowly with a 7-day challenge, and then moved on to a 30-day challenge. The last gratitude challenge I took was the 365-day challenge.

If you do an internet search, you can find numerous websites that are supposed to help with gratitude challenges. I did not consult any of the websites; rather, I did the challenges on my own. I learned three things from this challenge. First, I have to make my gratitude list at the end of the day. Second, I need to say a prayer of assistance to help me find the items for my gratitude list. The third was to meditate before making the list. Sometimes the list consisted of one or two things, and, at other times, I found I had more to be thankful for than I could put on my list.

If you want to take the gratitude challenge, you can create a gratitude journal, or you can put you list in your regular journal or blog. It really does not matter how or where you keep your gratitude list, as long as you record the list somewhere. You need to record your list in some type of journal or blog so that you can go back and review it periodically.
