About This Newsletter

Poetry is often a reflection of the poet's emotional state, metaphorically or symbolically written in verse. They create feelings and moods throughout their work by means of the language used. This intern creates images and the structure of a certain phrase or stanza that helps to leave a lasting impression of an idea or emotion. Despair and fear are displayed frequently through poetry, but the most important is love.

A romantic poem may not always fit the specified structure, but it will fit the feelings category, which is most often overlooked. The time and energy you invest in your poem will be well spent. Knowing how to write romantic poems is not as difficult as it may seem, here are a few steps to help with the process:

Step 1. Read a few romantic poems yourself, this will help in a few ways. You will get an idea of how romantic poems are written, what is said, and how it is said. It will put you in a romantic mood, which is the right frame of mind to write.

Step 2. Choose a poem style that is simple and easy to manage, I tend to prefer a style that rhymes because it tends to help the romantic poem flow a little better.

Step 3. Grab a piece of paper, pencil, pen, or keyboard. Start writing down any romantic thoughts and words that come to mind when you think of your loved one, remember that this is a romantic poem, so you want it to be personal, sentimental, and full of love. Think of the features, characteristics, and qualities of your loved one.

Step 4. For each of those words write down at least one specific example that relates that word to your relationship. For example, if one of your words were "companionship" you could write: " For years I have known only loss, but ever since you came into my life you've been the best companion. You helped me get over that difficult time." Try to hone in on those special moments that you two have shared together. By doing this you will have an easier time creating your romantic poem in a constructed sequence.

Step 5. Write your poem. Play around with words and make them flow. But remember: Put your feelings into it. Don't throw in words and verses just because they fit into your form. Don't be restricted to poem cliches. Write a poem about your better half that comes from you. Poems don't have to be fancy. They just have to be thoughtful and sweet.

Poetry is pretty much whatever you want to call a poem. Poetry isnโ€™t about being judged on what others think is right. It's about how you feel about what you've written, and who you have written it for. Can it be improved? Sure, but it all boils down to what you think of the work, and how it makes you feel. Just use your heart to do the writing, and add a few extra touches to have a memorable romantic work of art that will be cherished for all time.
