One of the best features (IMHO) about Writing.Com with respect to the field of writing is the collective trust of How To articles written by the many thousands of members.

Sure, you can go out and buy books on the various topics of writing. I've done just that--I must have more than 50 books about writing, many depending on what aspect of writing I was interested in at the time of purchase. And yes, I still use them ... occasionally.

But if I'm on WDC, whether writing a newsletter or a story, or browsing through one of the many Help forums, I can easily use the Search feature for a How To item that will answer a particular question that popped up. Many of these articles are saved in my Favorites. I even have a separate folder for such articles that I frequently use. I thought I might highlight some that I find of particular interest. (A note: not all are used or updated on a daily basis.)

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet* Don't Be Shy! Write Into This Newsletter! *Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the Mailbag:

From Ghelatlishol : Thank you for this great encouragement. I used to write a lot in high school but didn't keep at it. Now, years later, the bug has bit me and I really want to write, no matter what comes of it. I'll definitely make the most of this site as I can. Thanks again!

Best of luck on your writing journey.

From Sunny : Thank you for your mention as a full time editor for the Newbie Newsletter *Heart* I love your newsletters!

You're welcome. And thank you for your newsletters.

From the Newsfeed:

From Adherennium Dr of Phoolishness : I'd like to be the shy retiring type, much rejected by everyone.

[Adhere-San, I suspect you mean 'respected.' It is a good job your new spectacles will be ready next week.]

         *Laugh*

From Dragonfly : One that learns from the vast knowledge that is shared in the wonderful site.
One that gives freely of any and all ideas that I might possibly have to help others in their pursuit of writing.
One that is encourages others to write write and write some more.
One that joins in on all the great postings, contests, and writing ideas.

From oldgreywolf scribbles : I write for therapy, not recognition. WdC isn't needed for that. WdC assists in humanization. To which I add, "Thank you."

From Tina Lina Ruby Ray : Really great poets and writers we can learn from.

So true ... to all of you.

From ~Lifelessons~ : One that is always learning and contributing knowledge. I am not on a time frame to become the greatest writer ever..lol So being here and reading, writing and sharing with this wonderful site leaves no room for apprehension. Every day you come on hear and hit the new feed and see what's new and see what interests are there for your muse. It really is a beautiful things.

         Indeed it is.

From s : I originally joined WdC to get critiques because I was being rejected by publishers a lot. I didn't get too many, but hung around anyway.

I like to think I am in the "paying it forward" phase of helping other writers here. Despite getting very few critiques in my 12 years here, I still feel I have something to offer other writers, especially having a lot of traditional publishing experience. It does seem not many agree that I have something to offer, but there you go.

Sad you're not getting the reviews you desire, but thankful you're still here to help others.

From jdennis : I want to give counsel yet not be verbose. I hope to be wise yet not be a wisea _ _. My aim is to be Involved yet not consuming, happy without giggling and, I hope, helpful without imposing. I strive to be a disciple who will not preach. Someone who will sit back, enjoy, and revel in other’s successes, but never steal their moment. In other words, I want to be me. The real me, not the me others impose upon me.

From Jay O'Toole : I would like to be consistently growing as a writer, helping others to do the same. 😃

Good luck to both of you in your endeavors.

From Omnivore : I want to be the fortune cookie WDC member. I might be thought provoking and possibly insightfu. While the fact of the matter is no one likes my stale flavor and the fortunes I give are all too often blank.

From Moonstone : I want to be someone who is trusted to give you replies, but also writes great stories! I want to be a trusted ally for many of you, and not rely much on GPs and on pure talent and work!

From louisa : I want to be the kind of member who gives replies when need to, review different writing pieces, and participates in different things when I can, but basically, I want to learn from some of our best writers so I can be a better writer.

From elephantsealer : I want to be a writing member, a review member, a long-time member so that I can fill my mind with all sorts of Writing.Com...

I'm sure your participation will help make WDC the best ever.
