About This Newsletter

Each month has special blessings
known to those
who have "eyes to see"
and "ears to hear".

The blessings of April are many
too many to list here,
so I will name only a few
to inspire the poet in you.

The birds are singing,
the flowers are growing,
Passover, Easter, and Ridvan are approaching,
and Ramadan is passing.

Those are only a few
of April's blessings,
it is up to the poet
to find the rest.

Letter from the editor

April is one of my favorite months, because it is when Baha'is celebrate the Declaration of Baha'u'llah. The twelve days of Ridvan begin at sunset on April 20 and end at sunset on May2. It was on those days in 1863 that Baha'u'llah declared His mission in a garden outside of Baghdad. The believers who were with Baha'u'llah called the garden Ridvan, which means Paradise.

This year, 2023, Ridvan is only one of the blessings of April. Other holy days, which make this month blessed, are Passover, Easter, and Ramadan. Passover, Easter, and Ramadan are celebrated according to the Luna calendar. Ridvan is celebrated according to the Baha'i Calendar, which is a solar calendar.

All of these holy days are celebrated in National Poetry Writing Month. I think it makes April 2023 a very special time. The inspiration to write spiritual, religious, and/or inspirational poetry is in the air we breathe. All the poet has to do is meditate, choose a subject, and begin to write.

In addition to the holy days, a writer can also research their favorite spiritual, inspirational, or religious poet. I am reading Tahirih in History, which is about one of my favorite spiritual and religious poets. What poets inspire you to write poetry? Do any of those poets write inspirational, spiritual, or religious poetry? Please share your thoughts or any poems you have written that were inspired by these subjects?

Mary Ann MCPhedran writes: Spring is in the air
The daffodils are growing everywhere
Bright yellow stems
and trumpet heads. gently sway
in the flower beds.
The birds building their nests
and their little chicks are born.
Spring s dawning.

Gently sway inthe flower beds.
