Resolutions & Contests

Many of us make a resolution (or a list of resolutions) around this time of year, resolving to lose weight, to get a better job, etc. Why not resolve to be more active in the WDC community? We all know involvement helps us stay creative and can strengthen our writing, right?

Last year, I made several resolutions as an entry in an official Writing.Com contest. To help myself keep those goals, I even created my own scoreboard where I collected points for each completed goal. Just a few of my goals were: Enter 12 contests, Read 25 novels (and write a Product Review for each one), Write 20 new poems, Complete 200 Writing.Com reviews.

Resolutions and goals are a great way to keep us motivated to keep working, to keep at our dreams and to accomplish our goals. Resolving to be more active on WDC can help strengthen and improve our own writing. How?

*Bullet* Entering Contests improves our imagination & vocabulary. It stretches those writing muscles and keeps us alert, motivated and ready to write!

*Bullet* Hosting Contests can help us take a look at what works in writing. Judging (which should include reviewing, too) makes us take a look at others' writing critically, which can help us look at our own writing in the same manner. Plus, it's a great way to meet other members with similar goals and interests!

For 2009, I'm adding a few more resolutions, like Hosting and Judging activities & contests, and maybe even a few artistic endeavors. For me, the important thing about making resolutions is choosing goals that are challenging, yet attainable.

What about you? What are your resolutions for 2009? What would you like to accomplish and how will you keep track of your successes?

Great! Good luck with your contest!

Thanks for the plug, Spidey. *Smile*

Site-related resolutions: Host more events, do a "spring cleaning" on my port (reached my item max), and review more.
~ Feywriter

You've reminded me that I need to do a spring cleaning, too! Great resolutions! *Smile*

Great newsletter; lots to ponder. I've only run one contest, and it's quite specific. But you've inspired me to think outside the box I've put myself in, and perhaps create a contest with more leeway. Thanks! ~ KimChi

Thanks so much! *Smile*

Thanks for an ace newsletter, Spidey *Delight* There are some fun contests out there, and thanks to your highlighting them, I'm off to see if any of them have an acme shaped hole *Thumbsup* ~ Acme

You're welcome, and have fun in those contests! *Bigsmile*

Question to think about: Do you keep your resolutions? Can you think of a way to help you stay motivated or even remember what your goals were long after the new year begins?
