10 Reasons I Love Writing.com

With Writing.com's 10th Anniversary coming up, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about all things I love about Writing.com. I'd love to hear what you love about the site as well!

1) The members. Where else can you talk with members of all ages from all around the world, all of whom share a common interest?

2) The StoryMaster and The StoryMistress who sacrifice so much time to run this site, including totally revamping it for the fabulous v.10 upgrade!

3) The groups, especially critique groups that help me polish my work and spit-shine it until it's ready to send out for publication.

4) The freedom. Writing.com does not sensor its members' writing. We can write anything from children's stories to horror stories and erotica, as long as it's rated appropriately. We're free to explore any genre we want, not just through our own writing, but by writing items by other members as well.

5) The different types of items that trigger my creativity. WDC offers Mad Libs, Campfires, C-notes, Polls, Photo Albums, Web Pages. . . the list goes on and on.

6) The fabulous site support when there's a problem or technical issue. Where else does the site's owner talk one-on-one with its members, helping them with computer, technical and even interpersonal issues? *Laugh*

7) The opportunities the site offers. From entering contests to running my own, reading short stories and poems in any genre of my choosing, to writing newsletters and judging site-run contests, Writing.com keeps me busy, my mind focused and never bored.

8) The ability to read and review stories by members just starting out in the writing world. I love giving advice and sharing my knowledge with other writers. Everything I do here not only helps my writing career, but influences others'.

9) So many things are free! Guess what? Anyone can join the site and receive a portfolio that holds 10 items! 10! (To put it in perspective, it used to be 5.) Don't believe me, see "Read This; It's FREE!

10) The friends I've met on the site, including a handful of really close friends, one of whom I'll always love.

Ask & Answer

Thank you to everyone who wrote in about my last Romance/Love Newsletter. I always get so many comments when I speak from the heart! I couldn't have possibly included them all here, so here are a few. *Heart*

Hi Crys! I'm so impressed by your perceptions about yourself. Realizing that you wanted to be a bride, not a wife, and the acceptance that you weren't ready yet is rare for someone your age. Too many people grab the golden ring with no real thought about the consequences. Just to get that ring on their finger is the goal. Don't be jealous of the ones getting married. I'm much older and almost all of my friends are divorced. Marriage doesn't solve problems, it brings new ones. It's better to be very secure about who you are before you embark on that journey... Laura- LJPC - the tortoise

Crys, thanks so much for sharing something so personal. I remember the day I vowed to give up on men - within a month I met "Mr. Right" and it will be 19 years in November! Don't rush, don't force. He's there - just waiting for the right time.

Smiles

Your wedding newsletter was very interesting--and very brave and honest of you, Crys. At 26, though, you have your whole life ahead of you, and will have more chances than you'll need, believe me. You can take that to the bank. -Coolhand

Hi Crys,

This was a wonderful editorial on marriage. Like you, I was extremely eager to "get married". I don't even think I fully understood what being married was back then but I was sure ready for the ring and the dress. *Smile* Like you, I also didn't end up married to the first man I was engaged to. For that I'm thankful though ... my life would have been much different. I found my husband a couple years later when I wasn't looking and I have a feeling you will too. When you least expect it, love will creep up on you and no one will be more surprised than you. I know I sure was. *Laugh* Hang in there and don't be in a rush for "forever". It's a mighty long time and it will come soon enough. *Wink*
Thanks for a wonderful NL that really made me think and remember how I felt so many years ago.

*Heart* Brooke -Brooklyn

Crys, I was like you...but the moment I stopped looking, Mister right turned up...I too was 26 when I met him, and we have been together 13 years now. You're still so young! Don't give up, there is somebody out there for everyone... -Helen McNicol

Loved the newsletter!! Thank you so much for including my poem. I can identify so much with your thoughts and views. All my friends are getting married and there's this expectation that family members have but it's the same with me: I am not yet ready to get married. Wish the best for you. :) Take care. -Christina~Thanks StoryMaster
