About This Newsletter

Greetings to the newly arrived and to those of us who have been around long enough to keep finding new things to do and people to meet daily ~

The moment a man sets his thoughts down on paper,
however secretly,
he is in a sense writing for publication.

Raymond Chandler

Our WDC Community welcomes daily 'Newbies' who arrive, each with a unique voice, eager to add that voice to the symphonic chorus that is our Community. To all the 'Newbies' and 'Not So Newbies' ~ I'm honored to be your guest host this week for your WDC Noticing Newbies Newsletter.

Letter from the editor

Greetings, fellow writers!

Welcome to the Writing.Dot.Community (writing.com)

The 'welcoming committee' greets each of us with a portfolio ready to personalize as we choose; and our fellow writers are doing likewise, inviting us to read and comment on their verse and prose and articles just as they look to read our work. We're a versatile, eclectic, creative bunch and we look forward to each new voice that arrives with a solo to add to our lyric cacophany.

Today I would like to address a question posed in this newsletter by one of our members ~ how to increase the opportunity for receiving reviews*Thumbsup* Yes, you can write to this, and all other newsletters, as well as post an item for consideration with your comment. Subscribe to this, and other newsletters that pique your interest; each offers weekly items to read (and review*Wink*) along with often entertaining editorial commentary and the opportunity to write to the newsletter and enter the conversation.

Now, to have an item in your portfolio listed in random reads or searches by genre or type, identify it in the setup, give it a cover page of sorts. Rate the title and content and select up to three genres so members searching for reads, for example, in mystery 13+ will come across your title and, intrigued by the tag line, will open, read, and often comment.

Remember to select 'Save and View' one final time to check your work. Here you will find a spellchecker which will highlight (and offer suggestions for) possible spelling gaffes. Of course, just as in Word and OpenOffice, you are the final arbiter. It helps to run the Spellchecker here in case an upload added miscellaneous metadata. Offering a clean copy will make it easier for your readers to focus on the plot and voice of your story, the essence of your verse, or the intent and tone of your article, and offer in return their comments and thoughts.

Then, consider introducing yourself to fellow newcomers as well as members who've been around awhile. Let folks in the neighborhood know a little bit about you and they will want to visit with you. Jump in there now if you like and see how friendly and welcoming the atmosphere, how active and welcoming the interchange - say hello if you will before stopping back here ~ go on, check it out ~

Ask & Answer

Thank you for sharing this exploration. Before we go, I'd like to share a few comments in response to my last guest appearance here, and invite you to visit with each of the writers for a good read (and review*Wink*)

From: Hatsuda

I found this particular issue to be especially helpful in understanding (from a newbie perspective) the way to properly submit an article to this site for review.
Many Thanks - H

I'm glad you found the exploration helpful and look forward to visiting your portfolio for a good read ~ Welcome to WDC *Smile*

And, the inspiration for this issue, from: Early

What are some good ways to get my work reviewed? I've begun reviewing during which I try to be polite and also give good/constructive feedback. My reviews seem appreciated but people give me gps and what I'd really like (it goes without saying) are reviews. I'd love to read more about this in a future newsletter!

I hope this exploration leads to some readers with whom you can exchange reviews and comments. Welcome to WDC

Until we next meet,
Write On!
