Love. That wonderful, marvelous, delicious, inspiring 'thing.' Oh wait. I don't mean romantic, kissy kissy, 'lets dive into a relationship kind of love. I mean friend love. The kind two people share as best friends. Sex isn't part of it and gender matters not. For example, my hubby and his best buddy, excellent friends I have here at WDC whom I talk to beyond the cyber barriers, and my several 'best' girlfriends.
It is unconditional. It is simply there. It is the kind of 'I'd do anything for you.' type of friendship. It is the type of friendship where the 'middle of the night phone call because someone needs to vent' is always okay. The type where you may not actually talk for long periods of time and then pick up right where you left off kind of thing. It is awesome, valuable and precious. It still can send endorphins flying because both the mind and the body react to love. And sometimes, love without the accompanying dithers of a romantic relationship can be such a fabulous experience. Yet I see very little writing about these kinds of friendship. Why can't excellent friends acknowledge this with an 'I love you' comment? Why the hesitation? Love isn't only reserved for parents, children, significant others and extended family members.
Sometimes, it is almost if people are afraid of it. Or afraid to trust in something so simple as honest-to-goodness friendship and see specters hiding in the shadows. Maybe folks are afraid of the commitment true friendship carries along with it. Or folks get jealous. What a shame! What a loss! The potential is incalculable and yet often lost in translation.
I so love being a raindrop!! I make friends and keep them. I meet new folks and love exploring all the promise just waiting to burst forth. It's pretty cool, actually. It is honest and real and hearkens back to the absolute simplicity of the friendships we had as kids. Remember those? There was no subterfuge, no agenda . . .first you were strangers; then you were friends. End of story. Simple. Honest. Real.
So, I challenge you. Go read and find a newbie. Extend a hand in friendship. Marvelous things await you!

from my last newsletter...on make believe and let's pretend....

Often, I've noticed, kids don't use their imagination much anymore. We writers must keep up the excellent practice of make-believe - it is all-important in life.
Imagination is a vital part of life, air for a writer.
A.T.B: It'sWhatWeDo says: Nothing better than that feeling of "coming up for air" at some point in the writing process. Keep writing such wonderful newsletters, and we'll keep diving back down into the depths of imagination...
