About This Newsletter

Who are you? What makes you into the person you are? Are you the labels others attach to you, or is there more to it? And why is it important to think of this question?

This week's Spiritual Newsletter is all about you.

Letter from the editor

Who are you? That's a bit of a blunt question, isn't it? Still, it's a good question to ponder. Who are you? What makes you, you?

If I look at society, I see a lot of pressure to conform. The shops are filled with the latest fashion, flashy ads try to convince me that I need this gadget and that new moisturizer because I'm worth it, and magazines show me how my body must look, in order to avoid ridicule from the masses.

I don't know what it's like in other countries, but here in the UK I'm conveniently tagged with a label, all because of what I do and because of my views in life. Apparently I'm a yogurt-knitting, tree hugging, bleeding heart liberal and a working-class member of the great unwashed. It could be worse. I could be the "underclass", which is a label reserved for those who people look down on. My status is above that, apparently, but only just. I really should aspire to the middle class. That's where the worthy people live.

From a very young age, we're placed into the system, prepared for the future we ought to want. Education is mandatory up to a certain age, and then we must repay the investment or study on to then do the same. We must work until old age, unless we get lucky and hit the jackpot. In the end many of us will end up in a home, sharing our adventures with those who are willing to listen.

Study. Work. Retire. We're tiny cogs in a giant machine. It's the way it is, but does it make us who we are? I don't think so.

We're unique. Each and every one of us is unique. We're made up of so many different things that nobody can ever truly know us, define us or label us. Even those we share our lives with can't know everything about us - those passing thoughts, those fleeting dreams, the moments of joy or trepidation that we don't feel the need to vocalize.

We all have skills and stuff we're hopeless at. We have hopes and ideals, morals and standards, habits that annoy and traits that endear. We have a range of emotions, our own way of self-expression, and we all leave a mark on the world, however small, however big.

You are the way you rub your nose, the way you sing in the shower (or don't), and the way you might check if you locked the door even if you already checked it and know this, deep down. Nobody is the same as you. Even identical twins have their differences.

It's important to know who you are, though sometimes even we don't know exactly all that we are. That's why I think it's a good question to ponder. If we want to know the mysteries of the universe and achieve spiritual enlightenment, we must first know and (hopefully) understand where we're coming from.

You matter, because there's no one else quite like you. Your presence in this world is special. Please, rejoice in your individuality and embrace who you are. Express it, share it, don't let anyone label you.

Who are you? You're you. That's the way it should be.

Ask & Answer

The Spiritual Newsletter Team welcomes any and all questions, suggestions, thoughts and feedback, so please don't hesitate to write in! *Smile*

jyoti - hi if i get one day for changing the world then i will change all corrupted people. &i will make to our India as in a form of gold where every person will be as equal as a rich person. where is no compromise . every people will be a freedom for living their good life where will be no poorness

Freedom and equality are very important, I agree. There should be equal rights for everyone, no matter who they are and where they come from. Hopefully this will happen, one day! And hopefully, one day, nobody will have to worry about their next meal, or health care, or be without a roof over their heads.

jogar - "AN Epiphany for everyone" In response to your idea if you could change the world. My change is short and a spiritual and human change.
"What vision beyond Grace and Truth is of a greater form of a world one could describe? You ask if you could change the world, how would it be different. I would only change that all Human Beings Heart's were 1 percent more open to change then our world is today."This I believe would cause an instant revelation in the spiritual enlightenment for all mankind. God Bless the Human Being. jogar.

I like your change, Jogar. Yes, perhaps the one percent will be what it takes and make a real difference! *Smile*.

shepherd46 - This is a very interesting question and one that could have many answers. You made a good point about being a writer and offering ideas for improvements. Excellent advice! Like you, I continue to write--with the hope that I bring ideas to the reader--ideas that might uplift and lead them toward a more positive and uplifting way to live...

Thank you! *Smile* Please do continue to write! I do believe it can make a difference. Through our words we can reach someone on the other side of the planet, and even if we make just one person smile, or think, even if we inspire just one person to make a positive change in their lives, then I think our words have been worthwhile. I know that the words of others have changed me...

qute - The world becomes what we make it to be. God when He created the world He was pleased with it and created every other thing to fill the world. But because of our own ignorance, because of our disobedience the world becomes worst for us and it is filled with filth.

We can make it better by being humble and acknowledging we are sinners and we make mistakes and try and correct the mistakes and work towards harmony and peace. The base of it all is loving one another. Sincere love will make it a better place for us...

I agree that love is the most important. If we love those who are around us, if we love the world around us, we won't seek to destroy, or harm. Love is powerful. We can do with more love.
