A Fond Farewell
And so I have come to the end of my story . . . .
I regret to say that this will be my last Horror/Scary Newsletter.
I know there are those of you who will rejoice at this, proffer a smile as thin as a filleting knife, hide behind eyes pooled like desolate wells in whose depths something innocent has drowned.
There are others, those of you I fondly call my good, close friends, who will be upset at my absence. And for those I say, "Let not your heart be troubled."
It is that I just feel the time has come to let new blood take the reins of Death's Steed and continue the journey through the mist of darkness and terror.
I regret this like the plague regrets the dead, and yet, as I stare up at the reflections of the cold uncaring stars, I realize my time has finally come.
*sigh* Time.
Time is moving so quickly I think of it as a kind of malformed gnome hiding in the garden of my mind, at first seen under the dense undergrowth and then, as soon as your back is turned, showing up someplace else while it snickers evilly.
Time is not my friend.
Just so you know, I will remain on site and continue to write and share some of my tales within the community, perhaps even guest edit other newsletters, but my main focus from here on out will be to promote my work for publication. That seems to be where I am lacking and if I was ever going to make a New Year's Resolution, this would be it.
I presume in my dark and bent imagination that there are layers of realities out there, stacked one upon the other like too many blankets upon a bed. Perhaps in one of them I am a successful writer, perhaps in another I am not. Either way I am writing-creating-doing what I love; and like any malformed gnome will gladly tell you, "Only time will tell."
The one thing I have learned and will leave with you is something I am sure you have all heard a million times before: Read, Read, Read, and then, Read some more. But it's more than that really; it's dissecting what you read, figuring out how the famous writer's do their thing. Ask yourself, "What makes this story, this paragraph, this sentence, so good?"
It takes a long time to read anything when you start doing this, but the benefits, the knowledge you will glean from it, is worth all the effort. You will become a better writer.
Well, I guess that's about it.

DEAD LETTERS

It's true, Bill. Plan an event involving relatives and food and scary things will happen.
Right in the middle of an aunt's birthday celebration, my power went off. It stayed off until the guests left, hours later. (No need to hurry, I had a gas stove--food was no problem.)
We have a well and septic situation that is powered by an electric pump. Thankfully, we had an above-ground pool and were able to use buckets of water for flushing!

There's nothing like real life horror to make life interesting. Sorry you had to suffer so much, but unfortunately, I felt your pain. I recall a Christmas or two walking like an eighty-year-old with hemorrhoids. Back spasms suck big time. Hope this year is way better and pain free.

I loved your story about Thanksgiving, though I'm ashamed to admit that your pain made me laugh so hard. What a disaster! I sure hope your tooth and back are all right now. Have a great Thanksgiving and don't do any heavy lifting.
