So, you're in love. It's a wonderful, warm feeling that puts a smile on your face in the middle of the day and makes your toes curl, but I submit you've got to have a couple of building blocks before true, everlasting love can take root. Any guesses? |

In order to craft your hero and heroine's love story, you need some "building blocks:"
 A = ATTRACTION
When your couple first meet, there must be physical attraction, but it should be balanced. If the hero and heroine meet, and due to a "misunderstanding" (or some other plot point) "fall into hate," the reader won't want to invest in their story. Why? Because "falling into hate," implies the hero or heroine is judgmental and not open-minded. What's the balance? Make the hero and heroine aware of each other - give them a heightened alertness - scent, touch, a longing, an ache, a desire, and don't elevate the conflict so they "fall into hate."
H = HUMOR
Your hero may be an "alpha" male to the core, or even an "omega" one, but he's got to be able to laugh every once in a while - and he's got to make the heroine laugh as well. She has to tickle the hero's funny bone, too. Humor is the best arrow through the heart there is.
K = KINDNESS
No man's heart is made of stone (neither is a woman's) and our couple's ability to receive and offer kindness, caring, and tenderness is surely a warm-hearted building block of love.
R = RESPECT
The hero must respect the heroine's honor and integrity, and the same goes for her. He's got to respect her likes, even if he's fond of them, and visa versa. Without mutual respect, the couple have no rooting value.
T = TRUST
When the chips are down, the heroine has to be able to trust the hero with anything from her darkest secret to delivering a message, and he's got to trust her back. Trust between the couple helps love grow.
Once your blocks are in order, you've got what you need for a life-lasting romance. There's nothing a little conflict can't overcome if you've for the right blocks.
