Nonetheless there it was, like a beacon flashing neon letters at her from her inbox, the letters proclaiming a simple subject line: Time to meet? Her mouse hovered over the link to the message when she drew her hand away from it and jolted up from the chair.

Lynn slipped her hand into Jason's and he smiled sleepily, his eyes still shut tight. She stared at him long and hard as he dug his face into his pillow and didn't let go of her hand. Lynn breathed lightly, afraid that she'd wake him. She took in how good it felt, just to have him hold her. Then, suddenly, she let go. Telling herself she was too aware of the feeling for her own good. He didn't seem to notice and Lynn huffed angrily before throwing off the covers and getting out of the bed.
Sitting down minutes later with a fresh cup of coffee in her hand overlooking the city streets, she spotted a young couple holding hands. The girl was leaning on the boy's shoulder as they laughed. Lynn forced herself to look away.
Excerpt of A Heart's Home:
It was January. That period after Christmas and New Year's when the excitement of the season begins to slowly ebb away and the temperatures bring you back to reality with a bitterly cold wind at your back.
That particular night I was nursing a sprained ankle, having twisted it earlier that day during a nasty incident in the dairy barn with a very obstinate pregnant heifer named Princess Margaret. Apparently the vet, Dr. Jon had applied a bit too much pressure when he checked for her baby's heartbeat. She'd scuttled away from him in the straw, then turned and gave me a kick in the upper thigh that left me sprawled out in the straw by the feed bin with my left ankle twisted slightly under me and a string of unholy curses flying from my lips.
Dr. Jon helped me to the house with Mark's assistance and left me in Mary's capable hands while they finished checking the pregnant heifers. After Mary had me comfortably settled on one of the sofas in the family room with my ankle on ice, I suddenly realized that it was my Dad's birthday. So Mary brought me the cordless phone.

Be sure to include some social time in your schedule during NaNoWriMo so close friends and family don't feel neglected. This will also provide motivation for you to complete your writing for the week so you can fully enjoy being away from your computer.
Don't try to do it all. Trying to keep up your normal schedule in addition to participating in NaNoWriMo can cause burnout.
