Will the Universe Write Your Book for You?
What is the Law of Attraction?
There is a theory by some people that all it takes in life is to want something badly enough and it will manifest itself. This sounds like a perfect life. Just wish for something hard enough, and somehow, somebody, will hand it to you. Doesn't that sound too easy? Yes, it sounds too easy because it is too easy.
I once watched a video by one of those "manifest your wishes from the universe" people. One of his examples was a little boy who, the night before going to Disney World for the first time in his life, wished to be able to skip all of the lines. In the morning, he went to Disney World with his parents and a manager singled him out to receive an honorary one-day-skip-all-the-lines-pass. Hurrah! It works! The universe conspired to give this little boy what he wanted.
Or did it? What about the other thousand little boys and girls who went to Disney World on that same day, probably wished for the same thing or some variation thereof and didn't get it? Did they not wish hard enough? I don't think so. A child's wish is a child's wish. The universe doesn't discriminate if one wish is better than another.
The video didn't offer any "before" footage where we would see the boy exclaim his wish. All we got was the "after" footage of the boy with his one-day-skip-all-the-lines-pass.
Many of the people who are ardent supporters of this theory actually work very hard on getting things done. None of them sit on the couch and just "wish really hard." As a matter of fact, the man who made that video showed in his own video just how hard he worked on getting his life's dream of producing a feature length documentary done. He was filmed knocking on people's doors asking them for money so that he could take time off from work. He was filmed actively seeking out people who have that "universe gives me everything I want" attitude. Every time there was an example of how things worked out for one of them, it was part of the video. But how many people didn't get what they wanted?
Just last week, I wanted to win the Powerball, but somebody else won it. I wonder what I did wrong. Maybe I should have bought a ticket?
How's all of this relate to your writing? It does. Like this:
Check out "Writing.Com General Discussion" sometime and track down all of those first day posts by new members to Writing.Com. What are most of them saying? They want to learn how to write. They want to see their writing published. They want to find others who can help them. What do they find? They find friendly reviewers, writing classes, contests, and many more resources.
Will Writing.Com write their book? Will Writing.Com fix all of their mistakes? No. But what Writing.Com offers is the ability for writers of all skill-levels to level up, get better, finish their writing, and finally publish it. Writers who find Writing.Com on the internet haven't attracted a freebie. But they did attract a very powerful tool to help them become all they want to be as long as they work hard, write, review, learn, make mistakes, learn from mistakes, and keep writing.
So, does the law of attraction work? Hard to tell since it only works for those who make it work. So, write and "make it work."

I agree. It was a pleasure to find a total of six new contests created in that week. I won't take credit for "starting" them, but three of those featured were reported through the submission tool, so that was really neat.

Yes, you are right. One of the best ways to find out about cool stuff going on is to become The StoryMaster 's fan. He's constantly announcing cool stuff and also runs some neat challenges that really don't require much to be a winner.

Featured again! The best way to get exposure is to submit links via the submission tool. You're almost certain to get a feature in a newsletter.
