About This Newsletter

Paranormal Romance is the great combination of the classic Romance genre and the unexplained. On the one hand, you have beings that are anything but normal. Then you have vampires, werewolves, and ghosts that can be can be heroes, heroines, villains, or foes. There are no limitations for the author in terms of the world building, no rules for what can or can't be done with people, settings and plot.

Letter from the editor

Paranormal Romance blends reality with the fantasy or science fiction. The fantasy elements may be woven into an alternate version of our own world, while an urban fantasy involving vampires, demons, and/or werewolves, may be more ‘normal’ manifestation of the paranormal. Then there are Humans with psychic abilities, witches, or ghosts. Time-travel, futuristic, and extraterrestrial romances also fall beneath the paranormal category

As with any story, there are major elements of a story which act as the glue for the plot.
Strong characters with strong motivation to their decisions and actions. Within romance, there needs to be a strong element of conflict that helps stir the pot of emotions.

Create your own world and be consistent with the rules you set. If you borrow from other worlds or myths, ensure your angle or idea is constant the entire story. Be mindful of the physicality of your beings, especially if they become romantically involved with a human. Tentacles, wings and other appendages may get in the way of love making or present a completely unbelievable scenario.

Write passionately and try not to focus on what others are doing or have done.Write something all your own, but be sure to stay consistent with it. As I always say in my Newsletters, read in the genre you wish to write.
