Welcome Newbies into Groups
Use the Noticing Newbies forum to find and recruit newcomers to the site into your group.
For some it was a short time ago, for others it was longer ago. So long that they turned purple in the case - but we all started the same here: as newbies. Depending on the level of internet savvy, we found our way around faster or slower. All those who check their emails in the beginning are encouraged to introduce themselves in "Noticing Newbies" . In those posts, many give a bit of an idea of what brought them here.
This initial message is group membership gold!  As the leader of a genre-specific writing group within Writing.Com, you should have the forum set to your favorites and check in periodically. I see so many newbies getting a generic "Welcome to the site, you're going to like it here." But nothing that really guides them by telling where their type of crowd hangs out.
To all who visit the forum often, I say: don't just send in a generic greeting for the sake of seeing your case represented on that page. Many of us have been around. Take the two minutes to truly read what the newbie says and then take the extra two minutes to find a link or two for them within the site that can enrich their experience here. There are "The WDC Angel Army" and "Invalid Item" that are always good places to tell newbies about.
Is there a newbie to the site who is heavy into fantasy, steampunk, or some specific genre? Do you know of a group that has several members who pursue writing in that genre? Find that link and add it into your greeting. Better yet, if you are a leader of one of those groups, make it truly personal and make that newbie a member and also send an email about your group and why they were added.
Writing.Com is a huge site. Our genre-specific groups and the amazing amount of writing workshops, contests, and reviewing for one another here is what makes it a place worthy to find, join, and stay around in. So, leaders  , don't let those newbies fall off the site. Go grab them in

In response to my last newsletter "Advertise with Newsfeed" I got the following replies:

Yes, I like it too when I see the notifications that let me know somebody took long enough to read my little note and leave a "like." Don't become too dependent on the "likes." Sometimes there are none because your post was pushed down before too many members could see it.

Glad to be of help. Also check out "Site News & Announcements" . It shows up as a green square in the left column under your portfolio stats. These entries explain some of the notifications etc. some more. "An important update to Ratings on Writing.Com" "Options Menu in Newsfeed" "Edit Newsfeed Notes"
