Advertising Venues on Writing.Com
Drum up some heat for your contest, reviewing or writing group, raffle, or auction.
Contest rounds that never were due to lack of participation. Writing groups where nobody writes. Reviewing groups that don't review. Raffles that don't sell tickets. Auctions that have too few packages and bids.  We've seen them all and it's never fun to be the host, participant, or even third party observer. What can you do to avoid the above scenario beyond coming up with a kickin' activity to begin with? Lots of things!
The owners of Writing.Com have given us a host of tools to make sure we can get every single of our items seen.
Places for contest advertisements:
The first and logical choice to advertise a contest is "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" . It is the only plug page that you should use to plug your contest. Of course, where there is a rule, there is an exception to the rule. "The GC+ Shameless "Plug" Page" allows you to post GC+ rated contests.
Places for activity advertisements:
The first and logical choice to advertise an activity is "Activities @ Writing.Com" . It is the only plug page that you should use to plug your activity. Of course, where there is a rule, there is an exception to the rule. "The GC+ Shameless "Plug" Page" allows you to post GC+ rated activities.
Places for advertising member shops and c-notes:
Do you have a shop on Writing.Com where you sell images, or anything else to be bought with gift points? Do you have a c-note shop that doesn't get enough traffic? Here is your page: "The Marketplace"
Places for all kind of advertisements:
Many pages on Writing.Com will allow you to make announcements of your community activities as long as you don't spam them and keep to all the other rules of the respective forum.
"Writing.Com General Discussion" As the name says, it's the General Discussion Forum. It is the perfect place to ask any question you may have, and also a place to make a one-time announcement of an activity you're offering.
Newsfeed The Newsfeed, similar to the General Forum, is your own little space to let those who follow your posts know what you are up to, including information about your contests and activities.
"The Blog Board" You can use your personal blog on Writing.Com to announce and explain an activity and then plug it on the Blog Board.
"Weekly Goals" If you are planning on starting an activity, you can make that part of your weekly goal and put it into your forum entry as a weekly goal. Anybody keeping track of your weekly goals will then see what is coming up next.
"Noticing Newbies" Did you notice a newbie who is looking to write in a certain genre? How about welcoming them to the site and also telling them about a contest or group that may interest them.
Remember, each of these forums and plug pages have their own set of rules that you have to follow or your posts may be deleted. Stay on topic while making the content of you contribution also and advertisement for your activity.
There is one more action you can take to reach a large (captive) audience. If you are running a genre specific writing contest, reviewing activity, or a fundraiser to support that specific genre, you can contact the leaders of genre-specific writing groups and ask them to include your activity into their next group-only newsletter.
Last on this list, but definitely not to be overlooked: use the reply function of the newsletters! You can submit your item ID as well as a short blub along with it. That will get the attention of the official newsletter editors. Because guess what: if you told us you want publicity, that means one less item to find on our own. While I go through different pages here to find things to highlight, I will (in most cases) feature your activity or contest here if you let me know about it through the submission tool.

Hello Pat, the reason I didn't advertise it is because I was unable to tell when it would be over. When I worked on my newsletter, your activity was in full swing. I looked at your page, but since I didn't know if it was still going to be around once the newsletter went live, I didn't include it. This is important for everybody: make sure your page has all the needed information. I try to avoid advertising something that may not be active when the newsletter is published.

Hello Gchardin, when it comes to writing, blogging or other, you will find that you develop your voice as you go. You can't work on something unless you, uh, work on it. So, you should start writing down ideas or thoughts. That's what blogging is about. Just let it flow. If it overwhelms you, then don't do it. Writing.Com is as interactive as you want it to be. You can spend your whole days here or just check in every now and then.
