Find Your Happy!
Something that was pointed out to me recently was that it seems I make writing a chore. So, here's how I have fun.
For some, just flat out writing is fun. While I do find writing fun, I find it tiring sometimes.
My greatest fun is writing spoofs to music or stories. Taking something that already exists, and changing it in such a way to give it a different, more amusing, topic (music spoofs), or add some comedy in where comedy may not have been to begin with (story spoofs).
And plus, the word "spoof" is just a cool word. Seriously.
So, when I need a little boost, both in mood and in inspiration, I will pick a topic and write a spoof.
Examples:
"50 Ways to Say Goodbye" (Train) has been turned into a joking song about writing students up, "50 Ways to Write You Up", and includes things like picking the nose and eating it, eating pencil erasers, and being jealous of my hair (because all of my students are bald - no joke - military school). Not all things we would actually write people up for, but funny none-the-less.
"Call Me Maybe" (Carly Rae Jepsen) has been turned into "Call Me Deathwing", the name probably only familiar to those who play World of Warcraft. (As you came into my life, I burnt you so bad, I burnt you so bad, I burnt you so so bad.)
And the one we are making a music video out of at my house, "Baby, Baby" by Justin Bieber is now "Cookie Cookie", which is a great improvement, if you ask my opinion. If I ever get the video up, I will be sure to share it with you. It involves saying yes to cookies, and no to salad. Indeed.
We all have our ways of having fun with our writing. For me, writing spoofs just makes my heart happy. Singing them always makes me feel better when I am in a grumpy mood. (And it has the predictable side-effect of changing the way you view a song from there on out, every time you hear it.)
Writing silly stories and poems does much the same.
Find your happy! It will make writing so much more fun for you, no matter what kind you need to do. |

You are quite welcome! I had a lot of fun finding blogs to put in that newsletter. Having readers is so much more fun than not, so therefore, blogs are more fun than diaries. 
Bob retired  said, "I cannot say I agree with your thoughts on writing. What I think you are doing is making writing a chore, I must write something between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm. Etc. I write quite a lot, but I am a 'mood' writer. When I'm in the mood, I write. Depending on the 'mood' I may add to my novel, write a bit more in my journal, write another poem ro whatever the mood indicates.Also I have this thing about writing, I enjoy doing it; if I am not enjoying it; I quit and go do something else. I like your thoughts about doing something positive on the writing front, but you really should enjoy doing it. Goals are fine and all that, but have fun!!!!!"
While I answered part of this in my blog, I hope I addressed more of it here.

That is certainly a unique way to look at it.
Valenchia said, "Ha! This is exactly where I'm at today. I almost want to kick my computer across the room and stare at it accusingly. The more I research character studies and how to write, the less I feel capable of creating a character and the less I know how to write. I feel wordless and brain dead, as if every word I've ever know just flew out of my head all of a sudden! Do I need to give this a break or carry on?"
Don't give up, maybe just try something new? Find something that gives you some inspiration, so you are not having to drag each word out of yourself with force.
Rhonda - the Queen of Minis said, "Like a circus clown I do it for the applause. LOL It makes me feel good about myself that I can do something people like. I also love words and always have. I love language and putting thoughts together. I love rhythms in poetry in songs in daily life around us. Put that all together and that makes me a writer."
I can respect and associate with this. It is always nice to create something that other people enjoy. It makes the creation more fulfilling. |
