Small Action Adventure Heroes

Not all heroes have to be hulking figures.

The mouse lemur is a nocturnal primate. The smallest in the world. The mouse lemur, while small, is fierce. Humans can't pick up a mouse lemur against its will and expect to get away unscathed. Those little lemurs will scratch, bite, fight like a (miniature) lion against manhandling. The person holding this little lemur in the picture above has probably bottle raised that lemur to get it to behave tame like that. A wild mouse lemur can only get handled with thick leather gloves as it will attack and bite the human hand normally. I recently watched a documentary about the lemurs and the one that stayed the most with me and my kids was the mouse lemur's mighty fight against the preservationists who catch them to vaccinate them. Just to get them to hold still long enough to look them over for diseases, possibly treat them, and give them vaccines, those tiny creatures have to get sedated.

When thinking up your next hero, imagine him, her, or it (animal) as small. The born anti-hero. Somebody who is small and appears to have lost before the fight starts. Give that little hero spirit, wit, stamina, and let them win. Because it's so hard for small heroes to win in real life. Set your little hero up against insurmountable odds and let them prevail. Because we all like to cheer for the little guy.
